I took a VZ exec for a couple of drive a while back (VE was just coming out). The car was fine for an a to b commuter, but when pushed it found the limit quite quickly, or (like all buick motors) when it goes over that 3500 rpm mark the engine sounds like it will explode. I wouldn't buy one but if one was provided for free I could live with it.

As for the VE I would give it a chance if I could handle the interior, in all seriousness if I have to sit in the thing all the time its a very big issue. The VE failed so I don't bother with it. Mind you the up-spec models are meant to be much better but I was looking as a regular VE SS.
