I removed the good cd player from my Barina and put an old one in and immediately noticed that whenever I had a cd playing the speedometer did not function.
It just sat at zero and didn't move. As soon as I removed cd the speedo began to function again. The car stalled also. Possibly unrelated. It does stall once every blue moon. Anyone know what is the problem here? |

What is on the CD??
Problem could be the music you are playing or the badge on the front of the car......

I believe Barinas use CAN bus and the headunit is quite tied into it all.

I just took the runt out for another spin after ripping the head unit out and placing electrical tape in a few places in case it was earthing out somewhere.
I stalled twice more under these exact conditions. -either cd or radio was playing -coming to a stop -indicating to turn corner while slowing to a stop. Still, each time I had the radio or a cd playing the speedo fell to 0 and stayed there until I turned it off (the stereo). I am not interested in spending more than a few dollars to fix this problem because I am trying to sell the vehicle. Hypothetically, if I'm selling to a car yard will they use the fact that there is no head unit as an excuse to offer me bugger all for the vehicle? |

Depending what type of value you want to put on the sell price, a check by an auto electrician could be the answer to your problems or you may consider not worth the effort and just trade or sell privately as it is. |

No head unit = no stall. As I said it only stalls if cd or radio is playing. |

Ok - easy fix, don't listen to any music and the problems fixed - otherwise it's off to an auto electrician to source out the problem.

I just threw the good head unit back in. No more problem.
I did want to keep it though. Bummer. Concerning that a single CD player could cause all that trouble. Thanks for your responses. |
