Default electronic ignition

hi just wondering if anyone knows where i could get a electronic ignition from and how much it would cost roughly and how much more power it would give me if any at all. i want to buy a new one tho and not second hand. it will be fitted to a 2lt pinto. and also are bosch alternaters able to be bolted straight onto an escort motor because am also shifting the bettery to the boot and need a bigger alternater.

thanks

Yesterford in Melbourne can help you out, if you want a new one to fit straight in. I was quoted about $600, apparently comes with a bigger coil as well. I installed a Crane Cams XR700 Fireball electronic ignition conversion kit; it's a damn sight cheaper than the option I mentioned above, but more fiddling about is involved.

Someone else here might know of a cheaper outlet for a brand- new electronic ignition kit, but these were the options I looked at. As for power, I don't know the figures, but after I installed the kit & sorted out the timing I found it made a noticeable difference, like removing the "pinging" I was getting from the engine at higher revs. Another upside is no more mucking about with point gaps & feeler gauges, conversion is worth the $$$ just to get rid of that chore every 5,000 km or so, in my opinion.

As for your alternator question, I have no idea.

its a direct points replacement. you wont gain any power, but just reliability.

Thanks JamesR I have looked in the catalog before for it with no luck but there is a guy who claims he can provide a Pertronix that fits but no part number which is a bugger.
