yea,, im also close to buying leads, as im going to get some MSD coils sent over from summit while the dollar is good.. ill wait a couple more weeks as i get a few things to pay off first.. anyone in vic wanna get some MSD coils with me... hopefully save on the ridic shipping?

Just sent Greg an email. I'll be pretty disappointed if that's the case. Waste of 200 dollars and postage.

AUIIPURSUIT I'm keen on getting MSD coils if you're happy to forward them on to me. I will cover postage over here of course.

I have recently had to change my supplier of lead as my original supplier stoped making my lead, there is nothing wrong with the leads i do now as i still put the leads together myself by hand,i use stainless steel terminals and silicone plug boots so my customers still get great quality leads.

i think maybe you guys are jumping the gun abit. He has to source the lead from somewhere, a1's leads have msd branded all over them but they are still handmade. So he's probably using a roll of top guns lead and cutting to length and adding ends. Remember he has to source it somewhere he can't make it and top gun probably have the cheapest rolls.

Bloody good question and i honestly don't know. Maybe he uses better conductive metal on the ends and or better clips for the coils i really don't know. I would think there is something behind it and hope he's not just onselling top gun ready made stock with a heavy mark up. But at the end of the day if you don't like top gun don't buy it and if you already have return it and explain your concerns to him and that you don't belive you are getting what your paying for.

I'm not the smartest bloke going but top gun are a fairly large company. I would of thought that they would of had better ends then another bloke that puts different ends on after buying topgun rolls.
But if they are better then the top gun ends would there be that bigger difference cos top gun leads are like $60 from a shop yeah

I see what you mean but the issue with TG leads is the leads themselves from what I found - they just dont conduct the power like they should - too much breakdown along the length of the lead. Thats what I found with my old AU which rang TG leads anyway.

And before you even get to that - if this guy is using TG leads how can he accurately market them as his own brand?

On face value I fully agree that it looks poor form.

The point about obtaining stock is valid but I would have thought that Top Gun would have supplied blanks without the company logo plastered over them.

Any way I hope they perform well for you but I will now probably consider someone else when the next set is due.

I usually use standard Ford leads on both my AUs. Last time the standard leads on the wagon started falling apart (clips on the spark plug end coming loose or off) after only a few spark plug changes. I change plugs yearly.

This time I went for NGK leads. They seem a bit more robust at the spark plugh end, so hopefully will be good for a good number of years.

I've not had a good run with TG leads in the past, so I am interested in what you guys here find/decide about the use of Top Gun leads by Greg.

It's a shame that Greg has chosen to go about it the way he has.
To my mind he would have been better off not trying to scrub the Top Gun name off his leads. You could always let people know that "in order to hold costs down blah blah blah", but what he's done just looks dodgy.
In any event he'd be better off sourcing plain leads.

He's not trading as QIL anymore... has he sold the business/name? One wonders why QIL would cease trading but then continue with another name?

well I have Eagle 8mm leads and so far so good. Sure they aren't the best but they are up to the task for what I need them to do.

If I was in the position to look for another set, I'd be going IC&E ignition leads. I have heard nothing but good things about these.

With regards to the MSD 'DIY' kits you'll find they do not have the correct connectors & terminals for the AU V8 coil ends, and these are the PITA end to fit.

Also there are differences with the 6 cylinder between AU 1, 2 & 3, so make sure you get the correct ends to suit your model!

The blue wire shown above is 100% Top Gun, I'm curious to know what QIL used prior to this? IMHO if I was making leads again I'd use MSD, ICE or Magnecor.

If this $$ stays good I might look at making a few sets again, but only in MSD and most likely only for a couple of models.

Meh...I'd pay it if I was looking for a high quality set. But thats just me.
