That's because not enough people bought the wagon...same with Fairlane.

I know some big national fleets like Chubb, Elders and Woolworths are all diesel now. These were traditional big time Falcon/Commodore buyers.

SA government too is attempting to go all diesel with its fleet, with police and parliamentary cars as exception.

How will the carbon tax impact on anyone with a diesel only policy?

No the Mondeo will stay FWD.

Exactly, plus the value of your F6 will only go up and up. Bring it on I say.

Diesel emits ~2.64kg CO2 / litre
Petrol emits ~2.30kg CO2 / litre
LPG ~1.60kg CO2 / litre

This is why from an emissions POV it is grams CO2 / km as the measure.
Running costs are more easily understood by litres/100km as the measure.

* EcoBoost Falcon will get around the 8.0L/100km petrol it will be ~ 184g/km.
* EcoLPi Falcon just launched will get 12.6L/100km LPG = 203g/km
* 4.0 Falcon gets 9.9L/100km petrol = 236g/km
* Diesel RWD Territory gets 8.2L/100km = 217g/km
* Petrol RWD Territory gets 10.6L/100km = 249g/km
* SIDI 3.0 VE2 Commodore gets 9.3L/100km = 221g/km

Large fleets are often sold or limited based on CO2 output. The 'alternative' fuelled EcoLPi Falcon, Diesel Territory and the 'high tech' EcoBoost Falcon will pitch directly into those markets.

EcoBoost Falcon and Diesel Territory are all about growing the market for Ford. The torque delivery of the EcoBoost will make it faster and more economical compared to the 3.0 SIDI VE Commodore. The 3.0 is a vehicle selling on price and emissions level. The EcoBoost will easily have it on economy / CO2. The EcoLPi will have it on CO2 too.

Odd isn't it...look around the forum...plenty of people who are long time Ford owners or who currently own a brand new Falcon finding little faults with it that annoy them...me amongst them...shouldn't happen.

How will the carbon tax affect diesel only fleets? In a word, "badly". Mines in my area are figuring in up to a 16% increase in running costs for fuel, as they are practically 100% diesel.

A four cylinder Falcon will be interesting and a fine enough car, but that depends on what happens in the economy over the next five years or so.

I also find it interesting that every car in the little list above by Phillyc (apart from the LPG Falcon, but that's a different kettle of fish because of LPG price and fuel consumption) gets much better fuel economy than my light little 1982 2 liter five speed Celica, and I'd lay money on it spitting out more CO2 than any of them. When we used to have the Toyota Landcruiser diesel and the Celica as a second car, we used to say "it's just the two of us, let's take the Celica down to Bundy to visit the kids instead of wasting so much fuel in the 'Cruiser". Now with the G6E...well, it uses less fuel on the highway than the Celica...why bother wasting time choosing? If we want to "save some money on fuel", we jump in the heavy 4 liter six cylinder full sized sedan instead of the little red two door four cylinder...
Cars sure have come a long way...

Wonder if that EcoBoost Ute might provide a leg-in or at least a foot in the door for Ford with the changes to the diesel fuel rebate in 12months time.
