Gidday
I got some good advice from here re AU fords when I last bought a car (got an AUIII 2002 SW - runs GREAT). The missus is after a small hatchback $2-4000. I have no experience with these types of Ford cars. I've only had an EL and an AU. Was wondering what are some of the better models/years to start looking at in the Ford range? Thanks for your time and help. Shaun

Your best bet would be to have a look on Carsales at small cars in the price bracket. As far as Fords go I consider the Laser to be your best option, I would be looking for something with reasonable service history and expect you should be able to pick up a fairly good one between $3,500 - $5,000.

I'd look for a Festiva. Bulletproof cars that keep on going (probably because they're relatively unsophisticated).

At least with the Laser most have a minimum of drivers airbag usually as standard on most models unlike the Festiva
|

My vote also goes to Festiva. Find a low km, 1 owner car with service history and you will be set. If you want small and economical with airbag get a Starlet. Want a bit more space and metal get a Laser.

The last Lasers off the line were great little cars I reckon and you couldn't go wrong with one.
