Stretch the budget and look at a e60 545i.
Both examples are far beyond what Ford produces. They are a true sports saloon with loads of features.

Some specs below;

e39 540i
V8 32V, 4398, 10.0:1, 210 kW (286 PS; 282 bhp) @ 5400,
440 N·m (320 ft·lbf) @ 3600, 0-100kph 6.2 (man) / 6.5 (aut), 1996–2003

e60 545i

performance
Top Speed155.3 mph OR 250 km/h
Acceleration 0-62 Mph (0-100 kph)5.8 s
I had put some thought into these, I have driven an E39 but not an E60.
Food for thought,
In saying that I have come across a BA GT 5 Speed with only 80000KM for what seems like a price i cant pass up...
IF it passes inspection next week.

Watch this space

Thanks
Mick

Like the brand form an old school perspective but theoir newer stuff you have hit on the head about the build quality, Have a mate that has one and lets just say neither reasonably priced spare parts or reliability seem to be a Modern Chryslers strong point based on his experience with it from new.
Love the car to drive and ride in but not to own..

Toyota's are great for that.

That said I have only been driving it a month and I can already feel my soul dying a little...

If its a daily buy a FG XR6T or G6ET. reasonably new, less fuel than a 8, plenty performance + potential

G6ET...exactly what i suggest. Still an FG(safest second hand car you can buy in aus). It has won the last two years car of the year in its G6 form. It has good economy and power to frazzle your brain when needed. 2008 or 2009 would be about the best thing you could buy on the market.
We just got one for 31k with 45000ks after adding darkest tint, leather protect and life time paint protection and a towpack and still 3 years waranty

Amazing cars

I'm in the G6ET or XR6T camp too, go like a scalded cat and consumeables like tyres and brakes are reasonably priced.... but another good option if you don't like the current FG shape is a BF2 Typhoon, I really loved mine in the 3 years I had it. Force 6 or 8 are also good options if you want that sort of more executive look. I don't recommend the older euro route, parts prices get fairly scary and you need plenty of them as they get older. Only if you have deep pockets.

I would of kept the TE and been happy with a Corolla for a daily driver, but that is just me. I use my old ZH Fairlane on gas as my daily, and keep my XA coupe and EB GT for weekends. If you are not worried about resale value, I would go turbo 6 Falcon, otherwise I would buy a Japanese car. How cheap is the BA GT you are looking at? I guess if the price is right, you can probably not say no?

didn't cost me anything...I asked for it all included and id take it at 31k. For the k's and the price. And its the new paint protection where its a one time application and that's it. Then you never wax the paint.

One time application . Never wax the paint . The Ming mole got you good! I would suggest you read the fine print in your little contract there for the "lifetime paint protection".

I reckon;

BA/2 GT
AU3 XR8

Or if youre inclined;

BF LTD/Fairlane V8
BF2 Fairmont Ghia V8

Im a Ford V8 Caveman, so my opinions are a tad narrow-minded.

Has anyone mentioned you sold a 2002 model car , to buy a 2004 model BA ???

And are willing to pay 25+k for an almost 10 yr old falcon ? Bit crazy .

I can understand buying a similar year model 540i , as it would be a nicer daily , the 545i woukd be money well spent , but a BA GT ... That's a lot of money for a thirsty daily driver IMO .

ok if your going to be a doushe about it then...the reality is you have no NEED to wax or polish the paint...and any peeling,blemishes or stains like bat poo....(something thats pretty bad here with the biggest populaton of bats in the world) is all taken care of.
Is that ok with you...because im ok with just washing it and not having to spend time shining it every wash.

Its actually exactly the same product that hyundai is using as i compared it to a mate who just bought a new i45 with the paint protection life.

Thanks for all the posts guys, After some hunting around I was presented with 2 choices today.
First one i looked at was a BA GT that would have been 19-20k, only 90000 kms but and a big but has been a bit neglected, even the roof lining was sagging and felt down on power to drive. Did some quick sums with no options, cloth only interior, and some paint repairs on the rear bar from the previous owner missing the towbar and hitting the bar with the trailer hitch. . . Just to bring it back to being a 8 out of 10 car I offered 18k the owner wanted 20k min so walked away.
Just so happened a caryard in the area had a fully optioned 2003 GTP in Phantom with only 48000km that was a 9 out of 10 car. Based on reciepts the Previous owner had spent $5500 on extractors,exhaust, intake and tune in the last 6 months then traded. . . WTF ? Anyhow after a lot of haggling end of the month combined with end of the year made for a very hungry sales manager, Wednesday I collect the car that was listed at $28990 that lets just say fell within my budget ;-)

Congrats! What a fantastic outcome. You've can get rid of the Corolla (or it's a trade in). You've got a car that you want for your budget, it's a V8, it's a Ford, it's got a loud exhaust and it's got low Km's.

No downsides to this thread. Happy 2013

Happy V8ing

Still after a year, mine puts a smile on my face.

Sadly at night if can't sleep, more often then not i would take the car out for a spin. Gives me my fix and I can relax

There's no such thing as lifetime paint protection. All I'm saying is, please just read the terms and conditions of your paint protection. You will need to get it inspected every 12 months by the company who sold it to you, you can only use their products, all bat poo etc has to be removed immediately, usually by them etc etc. At best the product will last about 5 years with proper maintenance and booster waxes applied. If its neglected, it may only last 12 months. It is a good product when applied properly, but its not a magic formula.

Congrats to the OP on the purchase.
