Human remains found in Leicester determined to be those of Richard III
CHARLES MIRANDA in LONDON News Limited Network February 04, 2013 9:52PM A SKELETON that lay undisturbed for 500 years and was found last year buried under a council car park in north England is that of reviled king Richard III, the last English king to die in battle. In what is being hailed as the biggest British archaeological find of the century, scientists yesterday confirmed DNA analyses showed the remains found in Leicester Council social services car park were that of the king who died in battle in 1485. The DNA was matched to Canadian-born carpenter Michael Ibsen, who six months ago was unaware he was a direct descendent of the king's eldest sister. Researchers had spent months tracing the bloodlines to find Mr Ibsen who had since moved to north London. Wow, what a story. Brutal where the times. Make suicide vests seem tame in comparison. At least he didn't send young men/boys/girls off to do his battle, unlike our present day leaders. He went out in full exposure, dying for his beliefs. Our leaders think they cannot be replaced, ah well, Henry 7 replaced R3, all was well at the end of the day. |

They had a hunch he was there...
 Awesome story, I love this sort of thing. The missing feet aren't a surprise, he would have been hacked about (as the contemporary reports say) as a form of humiliation after death. That facial wound looks nasty, going from above his left eye socket down beside his nose right through the bone. And look at the curvature of his spine! That would have meant a life of misery no matter how much money you had back then... |
