It's an import, you're 17... insurance should be about 35%-50% of the purchase price...per year!!!!

Get a dead stock EF Gli. $6000 should get you a nice clean one. Then do it up yourself as time and money permits. That way you have a good car to start with and you are not paying for other peoples modifications.. therefore buning money.

Its a rip off. Automatic n/a for $6800. Can get turbo manual for that, CA18DET or SR20DET. Can also get an early (1989) R32 Skyline GTSt (RB20DET 2.0 turbo inline-six, 160kW) for maybe $1000 more.
Or an EBII/ED S-XR6 with 161kW and much faster then that Silvia, and more reliable. Or an EB/EBII S-XR8 with 165kW 5.0 V8.

I used to own an SR20 Silvia S13 - very nice car for a first car but mate I wouldnt touch the 1.8 with a bargepole - pretty gutless especially in auto form and for almost $7K it is a ripoff. The reason I sold my NON-TURBO SR20 Silvia -not because of parts, they are cheap and plentful despite the rumours - 5 years ago when I was 20 (so I even had a 30% no claim bonus), perfect driving history, insurance was $4000 a year! on a car worth maybe $10K..... Check the insurance first and if you STILL want a Silvia make sure it is an SR20DE or SR20DET. Also I would NOT recommend the auto, it is painfull... If I could do it all again, as a first car I would go an EB XR6, for just under $5K :

$4000 a year faaark!! I might be getting an ED XR6 and insurance on that'll be around $1500, (im 19) hehe i thought that was high. I fell over with laughter, when you corrected me. $6800 for an unrego'd 1.8l auto , my mate imported a genuine 2.0L non-turbo 5-spd for less than that.

I was just looking at it, and I was wondering how the engine is a "1.8L, SR20"? Sorry, but I thought that the sr20 was a 2L and the ca18de was the 1.8L. Now I know I wouldnt even give that car a second look as the info is completely wrong, and I dont think that it is a hot buy at all.
