Hey guys, taking delivery of my GMC Sierra next Friday, its in the process of getting a roady done on it.
to register it and take ownership of it, what do I need to do? I registered the Falcon which was unregistered a few weeks ago, all I needed was a reciept with VIN/Engine No on it, the car with me and some paperwork. Will I still need to go to VicRoads, book an appointment and them check the VIN/Engine number? Or can I rock up at any VicRoads, pull a number and wait in line and hand them transfer papers and reciept? It still has a red light bar, red stobes and sirens on it, would I need to take them off first even if it has a RWC with it all on there? Or could I just cut the wires to them? Or even spray the red light bar lens black and the red strobes just for now? I've asked 4 times at VicRoads and got 4 different answers about the lights. There is no blue lights on it, just red, and it has some random green stripes on the body, was owned by a paramedic training organisation. Thanks much. |

no appointment needed just rockup, vehicle doesnt have to go to vicroads for a transfer, so pretty much everything else you asked is irrelevant

If it is registered then take the RWC and transfer papers and money. Take a number and wait, no appointment needed. If the truck is already registered then vic roads will not need to see the vehicle. The red lights should be fine, but that is what the RWC tester, he will tell you if legal. Just think of secruity cars they have lights and reflective strips and are all legal.

Sweet, thanks much guys
I'll pick up the car, drop it off home, drive to VicRoads in the Focus and then transfer registration into my name. What would I be looking at on stamp duty costs? Is there some formula for figuring it out? Another thing is insurance, its an import and not listed on any online insurance sites on their drop down lists. Would I have to insure it as something other than a normal GMC Sierra? |

Don`t quote me on this as i could be wrong , gotta feeling it`s $7.00 for every $200.00 of purchase price, that`s what is kicking around in the grey matter anyway.

With insurance if its an import not many companies will touch it, that mat be why it is not in the drop down boxes.
Only 1 company I know does imports and that is just car. |

I just post my roadie in with the forms provided by the local council office. My rego sticker shows up in the mail a few days later. I only need to get the numbers sighted if the car is unregistered.

I think they were imported and converted to RHD especially for Rural Ambulance Victoria, unsure if any other ambulance services around the country used them. Have a look on car sales at GMC Sierra, they've all got halogen projector headlights and a plastic shield over to protect them, dead giveaway its ex ambo. |

Stamp duty is $8 for every $200 of the price. Then add another $50 in other BS fees which i can't remember.
