If the nation never wanted it, it doesn't deserve it.

+1, most have taken 25 years to accept it - some will take another 25 years.

Manufacturing, from developed western countries into the 'third developing world' was a planned outcome of the "1976 Lima Agreement".
Championed by Gough domestically, signed off by Andrew Peacock once Fraser gained power. Anything domestically like the Button Plan after that, mostly attempted to slow-down that offshoring effect, as do items like tarrifs-later free trade to flatten the playing field with what were 'developing countries'. Gough was only a minor player, as most then advanced European countries and the US and GB contracted the Agreement and powers that be withing controlled it all. These docs are in Canberra, online at the UN etc.

Can I ask a dumb question.
Why did we lose our manufacturing industries when the USA and UK ect didn't? We are really really stupid.

Great article in The Age today titled "Holden On" I can't link it as its in the app
The article shows just how efficient current Holden manufacturing is (roof lining goes in in under 60'secomds! ) and engineers talk about how please they are with the production line. Interestingly as the article states No car sells enough in this country to be locally manufactured anymore. So it's not a case of inefficient manufacturers its a case of economies of scale that simply can't be defeated. Sad but true

You may be right about the stupid bit. (A dig at some politicians over the last 4 decades). If memory serves, at some stage in time, GB had some 28 locally owned car manufacturers. July 9, 2013- Quote:

This is the cold hard truth. I think Ford management clued onto this in the lead up to FG. I think their approach towards Falcon post BF wasn't half a$$3d or incompetent (ok maybe a little poorly thought out) they just realized that the end was inevitable, the economies of scale just aren't there and large sedans just aren't selling enough O/S to justify the cost of an export program.

Or we should just build houses and keep flipping them at each other at ever increasing prices. That is a guaranteed way to increase our wealth. Just make sure you are not left holding the (debt) parcel when the music stops.

a bunch of idealistic and gullible Australian politicians over the years have signed us off..........yes you, me and the whole of Australia to various agreements with ............... (UN)United nations, Gatt/WTO,NWO, kyoto, and a few more i can't recall. the beauty of these agreements for politicians is the voters are basically trusting of politicians to inform the voter of what will happen with these agreements(hey they are the government right !), of course the truth is the absolute opposite, and as long as the majority of joe average's keep struggling along with his little pay packet and paying of his mortgage buying his cheap import in his own little part of world basically he don"t care what the hell a bunch of suits are doing !, hell it doesn't effect him ................. at the moment ! if you look at some of the kyoto agreement, we have to bring Australia's carbon foot print down to 1995 levels ! to me this is absolutely scary, does any one think this is a minor under taking? to me this means basically sacrificing a huge part of the country's industry among other things, standard of living? i won't throw stones and tell who signed us up to that one, you can look it up . if you take into account the many other things politicians have signed off on , basically it means they are killing off Australia's manufacturing and self sufficiency. i refer to Pottery's post............. the party's over last man turn the lights out........... Edit : one last thing, i don't know if our pollies decisions had were guided by this , but you might find it interesting. look up ........ Illusion of Australian Government , the first title in the google search will do. Last edited by mik; 15-07-2013 at 11:22 AM. |
