Default rego transfers

Hey yas. I have found a car I want that is still registered. The owner has had it for a bit over a year and never transferred rego to his name. He has lost contact with the bloke he bought it off. Along comes me, I want the car but I'm pretty hesitant buying a car that's not in the sellers name still wearing rego. I figure Vic roads either won't transfer it or give me a hell of a time. I don't want to cancel the rego (probably.hard to do on a car not in my name anyway). Any thoughts fellas ?.

Cheers.

How did he manage to re-register it, if he's had it over a year and it's not in his name. Sounds sus to me.
Does he at least have a receipt from the previous seller?

Vicroads will do a force transfer in this instance - contact them and advise them of the situation and they'll walk you through the required steps.

Cheers

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Never trust anybody selling a used car, ever.
