As always: Need More Information...
  1. Series 1 or 2? (I assume form your name its a 2, but who knows.)
  2. Are you locking with the key or remote?
  3. Do you get a different result with one or the other?
  4. When locking with remote, does the smartshield indicator come on, or does car beep at you?
  5. What is the button doing when you lock?
  6. have you checked other doors? What are they doing?
  7. What EXACTLY happens when you use the handle? Is it unlocking at that point? Or was it never locked? Can you hear the other doors cycle when you use the handle?

thanks for the reply
1. its a series 2 but you were right in saying who knows as I have 2 one a fairmont giha and a futura wagon it the futura giving me the dramas
2.locking with key or remote the same door wont lock
3.as above
4.yes the smart shield comes on car thinks its locked
5.the button goes down as it should
6.all other doors are locked even when you open the drivers door (when its meant to be locked)
7.even though it appears to be locked the door opens other doors do not open and drivers door dose not cycle

i can only think of 2 things
1. the bcm needs resetting ( I disconnected the battery for a hour yesterday but did not do the air conditioning thing
2. the bar that goes from the handle to the actuator is bent or something
thanks again

If it's the drivers door, could be the motor in the actuator only spinning a single direction (eg: it's jamming or not spinning in the lock direction) although if you got it to lock, either reassembled wrong (which would do one way: unlock, instead of both) or the the sprocket gear not connecting.
