Default Where do you guys take your cars for your Audio needs?

Decided enough is enough of listening to the garbage produced by the standard audio system.

Would like suggestions on where I can take my car to get my audio upgraded around Point Cook/Hoppers Crossing, Victoria. Will most likely just be a speaker upgrade but just want some suggestions on a place I can trust to do a good job.

Ta.

do it yourself. buy 6x8 speakers for front and rear, perfect fit.

take door trims off (easy 5 minutes job)
remove standard speaker (2 mins)
join factory wiring to new speakers (10 mins)
bolt in new speaker
refit door trims

Rear parcel shelf, remove baby seat brace. rest is just clips. pull out parcel tray (2 mins)
remove standard speaker
join factory wiring to new speaker
bolt in new speaker
refit parcel shelf.

buy a set of 6x8 alpine type r or even alpine type s.. sound great.

If you have a sub in rear parcel shelf replace that whilst your there. Grab a kicker 8 inch sub 4ohm and replace. Or for direct fit I think the Kenwood bolted straight in and the pioneer.

its an easy job seriously.

Amp is more time consuming but still easy.

I don't think they are close handy to you but have you tried one of the Forum Sponsors ASL automedia ?

If nothing else they may be able to recommend someone near you.

You have an Audio Hi Fi shop down next to Total tools or Alltools on Geelong rd near Industrial ave.

Yeah second HULK's advice (kill me now), it isn't that hard and if you take your time with it I am sure you'll be fine with it.

Nothing like the satisfaction of doing it yourself either.

I've upgraded the stereo in both my kids cars and my XC and I know zip about electrics except black is earth and red is positive.
Google it and you tube clips are great, and Supercheap have all the accessories you need too.

Since when has the B series had 6 x 8 speakers Hulk? If memory serves me right they are 5 x 7 all round.

Great advice.

Id just add that the speaker terminals for any new speakers will probably be different to the standard ones so you wont be able to just plug the existing wiring into your new ones. You may be able to buy adapters though to avoid splicing.

Also, if you end up having to splice and rewire the terminal connections, make sure you have the Phasing correct, positive wire to positive speaker terminal, negative to negative etc. The speakers with still work if they are wired incorectly but they will sound "tinny" and lack any real bass.

The actual correct size is 6x8... they fit perfect!!

5x7s leave gaps and the holes dont line up 100%.. can still fit them but dont fit as well. Trust me ive tried more speakers than most.

6x8s are the proper size. Also front doors you need speakers no deeper than 64mm.. or they hit windows.. yes ive measured it.

Rear parcel shelf go as deep as you like.

As for wiring... there are threads on here that detail positive and negative colour guides wires.. (data_mine thread)... just splice in new connectors (included with speakers) into factory wires.

I would do the job yourself, save money and its simple.

Not sure i trust a car audio place pull my car apart.. im paranoid they will break something.. miss a bolt etc etc.

I once had a car audio shop fit up a set of speakers to an old car, they cracked the mount of the speaker, stripped the thread where speakers bolt up and just bodged it up with washers and put a screw in that held nothing as the thread was gone..

I fixed it all myself and since then forget them..

Its seriously an easy job. If you want to have a crack PM me and ill give you very precise instructions, steer you the right way with speakers and if you decide on an amp, give you some more instructions and dos and donts.

I did my bf xr6t myself, bought all the gear and installed myself ..Sounds excellent.

I agree (provided you do know what you are doing) doing it yourself is a best option. I just installed alpine ilx 007 CarPlay unit in an older car - trim clips are easy to break and they won't take as much care as you . Mine was a bit complex on wiring side as the car has factory amp , sub and cd changer but was all done without cutting any the of factory wiring.
If it is just speaker upgrade by all means do it yourself.

If you take it to a dedicated audio shop you won't have to worry about them breaking things.
If you take it to JB Hifi, then you're asking for trouble.

But I also agree that DIY is not a tough task if you're handy enough to pull apart your door trims, and possibly do some wiring modifications (plug ends).
There are probably adaptors for everything though, so you can just plug and play.

Yeah they have shut down! I have also heard good things and that is why I went to check them out. I'm unsure when it happened, but they no longer operate anymore.
