I have just purchased a 2010 LV XR5 and have had to return it on 3 occasions as the engine light in the dash keeps coming on.Goes back to the car yard they fix it then a day or two later it comes back on. Does anyone know if this a common fault or is it a real problem. Cheers.

What is the error code that is causing the engine light to come on?
Do you have access to a scan tool where you can pull the error code? |

Take it to a mechanic to see if its a sensor within the engine that's playing up. If the cars running fine its most likely that as they will clear it away on there computer like they did to my sisters lx focus. If it keeps coming back you most likely will need to get a new one to replace the faulty one.

Is there any changes been made? Like a 3" exhaust for instance? Or is it still stock standard?
The only time it comes on in a standard car is if the MAF or MAP sensors are dirty or the other common fault with 2010 5's is front wheel bearings or speed sensor brackets. But they usually bring up the ABS light too. Plus you'll hear a crunching/grinding sound. Occasionally an O2 sensor will fail, but that's usually on much older cars. Best find out the error code first. Alternatively there is a XR5 forum. www.fordxr5turbo.com Sent while boosting ....

O2 sensors usually fail some time after about 100,ooo klm and also accompanied by higher fuel consumption

Cheers for the replies, cars only done 80k so I don't think its the 02 sensor. The car yard just tell me that they have fixed it they don't mention what was done to fix said problem. Its not standard it has a sports exhaust fitted.Apart from the light coming on it runs really well. Will see what they come up with this time. Thanks.

That makes it easier!
You'll need a spacer on the O2 sensor on the catalytic converter. Decent exhaust shops will have them Sent while boosting ....
