The members of the Brock cult who can't afford them will be the most offended by Holden branding it 'Director'. Those who can afford will buy them anyway due to the dubious Brock connection and probably won't care what the rest of the cult think.
At the end of the day, Holden sells a few extra Commodores slightly different to the others. Well done Holden.

Have owned a Director and a VK Group A, still part of the HDT club and can tell you honestly you won't find one us with any of the new stickered VE or VF crap Holden are doing.

Point is there will be Brock tragics who can afford them that will buy them. They're not going to give a rats *** what clubs think since a lot of Brock fans aren't in a club and have no desire to be.

All in all Holden sells a few slightly different 'collectable' Commodores based on a dubious connection. Win/win for Holden.

Doubt it.

The people who will buy these will most likely do so for the HSV bits and the value for money package; rather than for anything to do with Brock.

Real Brock fans would prefer to spend their money on cars made while PB ran the show.
It's no contest really - a new VF with no soul for the same coin as say a very well kept VL Group A or even a VH group 3 with change.
I know which way myself and many other true fans would go, and there's already 2 in my garage to prove it.

This article also fails to differentiate the two different applications of the 'Director' name as used by HDT.

The first use was for the 'Calais Director' in the VK series:

And the second use was for the car simply called The 'Director' in the VL series, only 12 of which were made, the majority post the Holden bust-up of 1987:

Thus there never was a 'Commodore Director' as such, only a 'Calais Director', and The 'Director' itself, which was based off a Calais.

Most motoring journalists would know this stuff, and it sounds like the article might have been written to generate controversy.

Exactly.

And it puts all the blame squarely on that fateful Friday night in Feb '87, when in reality it was a myriad of things that had built up over years.

A crap read indeed. Author probably wasn't even around in the 80s.

Didn't the vl director (only 9 made from memory) have a 5.6l stroker in it, as opposed to being a 4.9? I like hdt's my brother had a vh brock in 2000 before they were worth anything, but to me it just looks like a ssv with a better interior and a badge, let alone any go faster bits. To be fair they probably don't want to take any shine away from the hsv brand. Just my 2c

HSV's rework of the Energy Polariser is said to contain crystals from saturns moon ( titan ) and a magnet from the star "Helurious E4" which is claimed to align the molecules of the flux capacitor allowing it to warp into the future at the speed of light for a brief second giving the vehicle a massive jolt in distance traveled, However, it has not yet been independently validated by HSV engineers in Australia, Daweoo engineers in china or Cherry engineers in Kazikstan.

Can't remember what engine the VL had, but I do remember Brock imported a fully independent rear end from the related Opel and had them fitted to the Director. It really had a lot of engineering put into it over and above the standard VL.

**Not to mention the Polariser which clearly was the pinnacle of scientificly proven engineering right there.

Seems like an odd name to bring back...but i guess its one of the few Brock names that isn't a reference to a racing class.

I think it falls into the fat guy who wants to have the option of going fast class, down the same road of a f6e or a gte . But in 87 it was unheard of

12 VL Directors were made, and all were different.

Some had IRS, at least one had the 5.6 stroker engine, some were manual, some had Recaro seats. Basically whatever the customer optioned.

The mythology surrounding these things is like folklore, however the facts can be researched.

The Edsel and Pinto are about as relevant to the Director and a Energy Polariser as a Barina Cabrio, Chevrolet Corvair, JB Camira, Plus 4 or G Pak Torana's.

So I noticed. 'Trolling' I think it's called.
Every manufacturer has it problems though.

I can't see too much of a problem with Holden selling a few cars called 'Director' even if it does upset the Brock cult. As Ford17 pointed out those who will probably buy it won't care about the Brock factor anyway, more the HSV link. Sales will dictate its success or lack there of.

Shame Ford didn't do a few colours in the Sprint range named after a few of it's former champs. 'Moffat Red, 'Bowe Black, 'Johnson Blue', 'Carter Yellow', or 'Geoghegan White'.
