I think the 4x2 is underestimated as a good alround vehicle, I have the 4x2 XLT model used for a tow vehicle which also performs quite well in the bush with diff lock, I had no need for a true 4wd vehicle.

Oh the payload capacity is greater than the 4x4 version if people care to check these rangers specifications.

i think the bolded bit is the bit people forget. Ranger isn't an overnight success. like Everest, it only sold in small numbers to start with. Having said that, i think the timing of the Ranger was also quite good. Even though the dual cabs have been popular for quite a while, its really surged in the last few years.

yep, GVM is the same across the range, so the higher spec cars have less payload. its surprising how much weight some luxury items can add.

The Ranger lacks a price driven single cab petrol model that both Mitsubishi and Toyota play the discount game with. That's where Ford are losing ground in 4x2 sales.

Yes, Ranger as a well designed product stands toe to toe with Hilux especially at a time when
novated leases on cars were taking massive hits from the government and the tax department.
4x4s really seemed to come into their own as a non-FBT vehicle, the real leg up behind all of this..

In places like England, Crew cab commercial vehicles are considered as a fringe benefit (FBT).
If that ever changes in Australia, I think Utes will go back to single cabs or extra cabs with jump seats..

The majority of 4x4s sold are either off road vehicles (XL /XLT) or / and non-FBT (Titanium / Wildtrak)
Those who have no need for 4x4 or FBT compliance and just want a 4x2 are in for a real bargain..

just a shame they don't do a normal height 4x2, or even a low ride 4x2. they are all high rider.

What. They do do a low rider version. Very rare though.

Low rider is available, but I think it is in other markets only ?

You can get 4.2 XL single cab in a low rider cab chassis and pick up as distinct for tne Hi Rider versions..
That's for buyers who prefer the older Toyota / Ranger "Utes" we all remember..

Check your local Bursons automotive store if you have one nearby as they use the single cab low riders for spares delivery.
