Names can be sold you know. Caprice first in Aus 22/7/1974 and then again in 1/2/1979 now that in it's self does not have anything to do with what the car is called,as I said the HQ Statesman is not a "Holden Statesman" it's a Statesman made by Holden, the Name "Holden Statesman" does not come about till 1991, can you get that I know it sounds crazy but it's a fact. Ford Motor Company owns all of the Ford subsidiaries across the world (Ford Motor Company of Australia et al), General Motors owns all of the GM subsidiaries across the world (General Motors Holden, Opel, Vauxhall et al). By corollary, both companies own all of the IP associated with their subsidiaries, including but not limited to trademarks and model names.

Did you realise that the new for 1965 XP Falcon front sheet metal (guards & bonnet (hood?)) had first been used on the 1960-63 Mercury Comet.
Thankfully the Aussie Falcon carried over the rear sheet metal from the XM rather than use the Comets, but if you're into fins

Frontenac was a name that only a Canadian could love or appreciate, named after Louis de Buade de Frontenac, an early Govenor General of New France.

Frontenac was a company that started in the 19-teens by Louis Chevrolet & his brothers to allow them to hide their racing developments from GM's Durant (who convinced Louis to join GM, and use his name for a line of cars). Probably the first record of an unofficial skunk-works in Detroit! The name Frontenac came from an old French governor - paying homage to Chevrolet's ancestry. One of the company's first developments was an aftermarket 16 valve head for the Ford model T (and most think the Japs or Italians invented multi-valves) that was popular among racers (Chevrolet & his brothers were racers). He also made speed equipment for other makes & models, including Chevs - Frontenac parts are highly sought after by the vintage Chev guys I knock about with. Some 40 years on, Ford of Canada revived the Frontenac name. There's a bit more here: https://history.gmheritagecenter.com...ouis_Chevrolet |

Both cars were pretty much the same thing with a different name. It only lasted a few years based on the Torino before it was axed. Those model Falcons shared nothing with our Falcon. Not like the earlier US Falcons did with ours. |
