Default Electronic Distributor

Hello

I bought a 250 crossflow 6 from a wreckers a couple of months back which i have put in a boat , it came with an electronic Distributor and no coil, the wires where cut from the coil. so what I'm left with

brown
brown/black
yellow/green

I'm guessing the Brown is +
and the brown /black is _

not to sure what the yellow/green is

can someone please give some advise

cheers

As far as I can see from those pics, that dissy is an XF EST unit & as such doesn't do much on its own. It is meant to be used with an EST control module (ECU). All it has inside is a hall effect pick-up & no method of advance.

For your boat motor you need a proper electronic dissy out of an alloy head XD, an XE or a leaded XF (pre-1986). It is a complete dissy with full advance mechanism & control module, it just needs an ignition coil & you are right to go.

mate just be careful with those chinese ebay cr@p ones. you will either have issues with the module failing, or the gear chomping the cam.. its very common especially on the singlecam engines cheap dissy costs engines after a few months.

personally id get onto a ford wrecker and see if theres any genuine bosch/motorcraft ones around and get hold of one and rebuild it if needed. I probably had a box full of them, but got rid of all the junk that never got used :(
