Just so much easier to do it as your car, see as though the cost is the same either way.

But i must say i can see why you want to look at cutting corners. I did a quote based on my suburb (ST CLAIR) and your age (18) and it came back at $4584.70. I could not believe it... I thought $941 for my AU 6 Futura and me being 26 years old was way too much to pay... i'll stop complaining i think...
i live in erskine park right next door and we share the same post code. use to live in st clair, so you can see my dilemma. on top of that, add a neg driving fine and a write off :

There's still plenty of fun to be had in the 6 (even tho I'd still love an 8).

Not really. My XR8 on petrol only uses approx 1l/100km more than our I6 wagon.

So putting the XR8 opn gas was not necessarily because it was thirstier, per se, but because it is my daily driver, so it made sense to put gas on the car I use to rack up 300-400km per week. The thirst factor did come into it, but not as much as you might think. The gas would never pay for itself on a car we are lucky to use for 5000km per year (the wagon).

Geez .. when I was 18 my first car was a Studebaker V8, then a series of Dodge Phoenix(es), Chevs, Pontiacs, etc .. If I remember rightly, the first few were not insured for full-comp only third party. But after a few years of no-claim I started full-comp and my "history" with the insurers meant my rates were pretty good. The cars were all registered and insured to me.
Maybe you just need to buy something cheap to start with (EB Fairmont V8!! )and don't bother with full-comp .. or doesn't that work anymore?

Your were a "P plater" ounce too wernt u..........But yeh i do love the XR8's, but i'll just stick to my car lol......And mod on that......I'll be doing more of the "looks" mods then the "go" mods for the time been, i might try and get some extractors that'll fit with the gas converter in the way! LOL, but i wouldn't/couldn't buy a V8 now anyway as of 1) Petrol prices, 2) Insurrance would be heaps and 3) I love my car now.....But insurrance is still heaps on my cay anyways atm! :monkes: :ticking:

My SR is going on gas in less than 2 weeks for the same reason, I'll be racking up over 400 km's per week in it. It gets under 10litres per 100 when driven gently, but there's not much fun in doing that all the time is there?

Forum member has one for sale in Canberra, around the 20k mark.
Look in the for sale section for full details.
