Default Red Light Camera's in Melb CBD

Are there red light camera's in the CBD of Melbourne on all of the intersections?

I saw a flash last night, but there was another car behind me who would have been caught im guessing.

Thanks Paul

The flash could also have been from the power pickup pole of a tram. These flashes have caught my eye on a few occasions.

Most Red light cameras give a flash then a second one a couple of seconds later to confirm that a particular car went through the red light. Tram flashes have caught my eye before too. Id say its either a tram or if you did get pinged pay a few lousy bucks for the photo and hope theres another car in there and they do let you off when you write to them as it cannot stand up in court if theres a second car in the pic. Speed cams are the same most of the time they fine every car in the pic then let you off when you object.

i think it's $200 not $250.

if you're worried about it, take a trip back to the city, park and walk to the intersection and check out if there's a camera there.. that's what i'd do if i was that worried (and i've done it before lol, once)

There are a few cameras around, but most of them are on the outskirts of the city. Go take a look, if there's nothing then cool, if there's something then debate it if anything eventuates. Relax man it's all good.

Yep I got stung by this one about 9 years ago (turning left into Hawke). I was very surprised because back then I never thought camera's could get you whilst making a turn...assumed they were for oncoming traffic: . This one would have to the best revenue raiser 'round town!

If you have one wheel over the line when it turns red, you're not actualy runing a red light. Its only if you cross the line AFTER it has turned red.

You can tell state gov/police dont really care about the road toll. You can not say that 16km over the speed limit is more dangerous than running a red light. Yet i wonder wich one carries the greater fine!

Scary thought, running a red at 14 k's over the posted limit (some cams in Melbourne do speed and red light, and future cams will take a snap of the driver for id perposes)and talking on your mobile, that's a total of 9 points and $600, all in a few seconds. Theoretically possible if you having a indepth convo on the phone.

Warning... Don't try this at home... :

There are quite a few. Watch out on Alexander Pde, Kings St. Most of these are newer style cameras, that have the speed detection as well. And it's hard to tell, as most streets are 50, not 60.

Yeah there isn't really too many inside the CBD, I think there's one on William Street and also on King, but there's new ones popping up all over now in the suburbs so I'd guess more are on the cards for the city.

Who else thinks the traffic lights are useless at Swanston & Lonsdale (travelling east on Lonsdale) because of those stupid white poles? It's a blackspot I reckon.

I got flashed while I was doing 50 (knew there was a speed camera ahead) as a truck was passing me at a faster speed at 3am when the Soceroo's lost again'st Italy, nothing ever arrived but still had me worried.
