Default Variety Club Vic Bash, Looking for a car to buy.

Hi all.

A mate and i are going to enter in next years Variety Club 'Vic Bash' It's in august, so we've got a full 12 months to prep a car, search for sponsors, and raise some money for the variety club.

For those who dont know, it's pretty much a 12 day road trip, (this years is Melbourne to Cairns) with the primary purpose to raise funds for sick, diabled and disadvantaged children. To enter you need to have a car thats a minimum of 30 years old, and as far as theming it, and kitting it out, the sky's the limit. You need to take your own tools and spares to deal with any problems along the way. It costs a minimum of $5050 to enter, but the idea is to raise a much money as possible. This years target is to raise $1.4 million.

Now brings me to the point of this thread. We're looking for a car at the moment, preferably a wagon. Trying to get an old pre 76 falcon wagon. There's a zillion HR wagons we've been able to find, but as first preference we want to do it in style in a Ford!

So wondering if anyone has an old wagon laying around, and is looking to sell, or knows of an old wagon somewhere and they could get us in touch with the owner it would be much apprecited. We decided we will buy the car, prep it all and get it painted and ready to go so we have something to present to potential sponsors/donors.

Any info would be appreciated.

Also if anyone has been involved in the Bash before it would be great to get some adice. Thanks.

Cheers.

Ben

Any ideas of where a cheap one is? And also how do you go getting spares for them? Are they easy to find and cheap? A guy at the corner of my street has a HR wagon for sale, reco 202, aussie 4 spd, disc brakes all round, in average cond for $1200 and i can get heaps of spares, but dont want to do it in a Holden! But looking for something like that.

On the website the dates are for 8th til the 19th of August 2006. Leaving from Melbourne. So unless its changed, or they were headed down here for the start from interstate, i'm not sure.

We're looking at doing next years as i said anyway.

It does start on the 8th. My old man is running in it again in an old '64 Chevy Belair. All vehicles that partake in the Variety Club bash are scrutineered before the run to ensure they'll make the trip. So whatever you choose to drive, it will require some reinforcement to pass scrutineering.

Hey thanks for still keeping an eye out for me. Appreciate it.

Would have been perfect, but a condition of entry is the cars must be a minimum of 30 years old which counts both of those out.

Spewin!
