Sure, if you are about to die and you have no options then take it. But it's not recommended for normal patients with cv. It'll do more harm than good. Remember most cv patients actually recover.
I was on Plaquenil(hydroxychloroquine) for 2yrs for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. I had to get liver function tests done every 3 months. But other than that, my dosage was low, it was monitored and I had no other side effects.

If you were to go on high dosages, I suspect yes, you would be doing more harm than good. But under monitored low dose scenario's I can potentially see it working until you were given the all clear.

This might give a clue as to where China is at. Apparently there aren't enough cases in mainland for phase 3 trials, so their vaccine is being trailed in Brazil. One article says 900 healthcare workers taking the trial, another says 9000. 9000 is probably more like it for a final stage.

I'd taken HK off my watch list after they seemed to have been on top of it back in mid-June as they were down to single digits per day and the peak had only been 82 in mid-March.

I'd say they are only having a 2nd wave now that started in early July and has seen a peak of 145 only the day before yesterday.

How would you effectively monitoring the number of people that have been infected if various levels are required? It doesnt sounds like a vitamin C tablet.

I've looked for reasons HK had so few cases despite being very crowded and having a lot of international traffic (similar to New York city) Mask wearing had 99% compliance before the govt said anything. Cases have increased as that relaxed a bit. Unless anyone has further information I'm taking this as strong evidence of the effectiveness of masks.

It would work like any other prescribed drug through a doctor on prescription.

My grandfather is on prescription meds that doctors monitor and adjust dosage regularly.

Pretty much concur with what FPV8U said.

It wouldn't require around the clock care if that is what you are implying. For my situation, I was given a prescription and told to follow those instructions. Any issues arising from that I would need to contact that doctor straight away. But every 3 months I was asked how I was coping, what side effects I encountered and improvements I felt. But that was a long term arrangement. Covid patients could be on it for far less time.

I am guessing this is a not a 100% cure all for every single person. But it could potentially be for a lot of infected out there. Plus its a far better option rather than a rushed vaccine as far as Im concerned. But hey Im no doctor/GP so what do I know?

How good is this for a fake news story from NBCnews

Quote:
COVID-19 has killed more Americans than the rebels did during the Civil War

The U.S. death toll was closing in on 150,000, according to the latest NBC News tally.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncn...mpression=true

Except the USA's population during the civil war was circa 32M people - it's now around 330M people.

The US Civil War remains the deadliest conflict per capita in their history.

Misleading context

Qld declaring Greater Sydney a C19 Hotspot.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/bord...29-p55ghw.html

Two women, from Logan and Acacia Ridge, entered Queensland from Victoria via Sydney and have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Police were investigating how those women entered the state and why they were active in the community for eight days when they should have been self-isolating.

"These young women have gone about their business within the community they live in so there will be a large amount of contact tracing to be done," Queensland Health Minister Steven Miles said on Wednesday morning.

Time to stock up on TP etc, here we go again!

Appears as though they lied on paperwork after returning to Queensland.

Queensland has closed its border with Sydney after two teenagers with coronavirus lied on their border declaration forms and dodged quarantine.
With actions like this, it is going to make it very difficult for authorities to get outbreaks under control.

What was the reason for his death? Curious as to peoples thoughts.
The immediate cause of death is respiratory failure
The condition causing the above - Covid19 infection.
Antecendent causes (conditions present and contributing to cause of death) eg COPD, chronic heart failure, Type 2 diabetes.

Yep!! Note I'm not debating whether Hydroxxxxxxx will help in severe cases, frankly none of us do, unless we work in the field. Parts of Europe stopped using it when they saw that the effects were outstripping the benefits. She is said to have treated 350 patients on the stuff.....that is a very small sample. How bad were the 350 patients? Would they have recovered anyhow? Leave it to the experts.

They are now being treated in hospital.

I think they should be in isolation in jail!
I am well and truly over the airheads!

Long testing queues after teens bring COVID-19 from interstate
By Rebeka Powell 13:48

Long queues have formed outside the private school in Logan where an employee tested positive to COVID-19.

The 19-year-old cleaner is one of two women who tested positive after travelling back from Melbourne via Sydney on July 21.

They did not isolate and have been active in the community for the past eight days.

A testing clinic has been set up at the school after it underwent a deep clean."

Hopefully the Australian trials that are underway for this and other drugs will have some preliminary results released soon.

They stopped the using it as a trial when results from other major centres indicated it increased the mortality rate.
