I have personally used Grant's (Pedders Bendigo) services in the past and have found him to be reasonably priced and offer good service. If I was still in the area I would still be using his services.

Not only do I use Grant at Pedders Bendigo for my race car, but I also use him for my XR8 and my wife's XR6T. I have NOT found a steering and suspension business in the 3 states that I have lived in that would come close to being as professional, curtious and as knowlegeable Grant and his team. There are dodgy players in every area of the automotive industry, but as long as there are the quality of people around like Grant, you can guarantee that there are business owners that will look after us as customers. By all means, get another quote and while you are getting those quotes drop in to another Pedders store for comparison.

That is a rational argument, but not the point of the discussion.

True, but there's no point over-capitalising on a car when it probably does not need all the work done that they listed, and will not be worth a cent more if it is done.

I reckon if anything is obviously broken or leaking then replace it for safety reasons, but he should be getting a couple of comparison quotations for like-for-like work elsewhere.

The bloke asked for the check to be done, they did the check and gave their quote for the job, it is not their call whether the person should get the work done or not, it is in their best interest if he does obviously, so why not try.

Guys ya get what ya pay for.
Pedders is a good product. Yes they are ludicrasly over priced
no argueement there but their product is very very good. Not the best
in some cases but never the less a good product.
As for the 28 point safety check....... They to it to generate business so
obviously if it is 10% worn they will say it needs replacing. They are sales
people at the end of the day and like everyone else are there to make money.
I to have had them tell me of faulty items when i was tryin to find a noise
and the items they suggested needing replacing were nearly new and a hell of
a lot better brand than what they provide themselves. But as I have already
stated they are there to make money and if they didn't try to sell you they
wouldn't be doing thier jobs.
My 2 cents anyway.

So where has Calude @ Pedders gone now ... has Padders moved to a different location in Loverpool ... as that shop shut down a little while ago.

Hi there, I just joined the forum.

I wanted to say the main reason I joined is because I was reading up on the Pedders story as I'm currently looking at purchasing one of their stores. I'm doing my background research on the company to see what actual customers are saying, and this thread doesn't make Pedders look good.

GT0132; I hope you continue using the same shop when Claude sells it on, you never know, someone with the same ethic might buy it and it'll be business as usual.

However, regardless of some of the good experiences, there seems to be a lot of cowboys running pedders franchises around the country. Shame really, it's their shenanigans giving the entire brand a bad name. I hope, if I do end up owning a franchise, I can provide the level of service GT0132 experienced with the shop at Liverpool.

Cheers

Welcome Pips I think you will find in the last 12 months since this thread was made Most of the Pedders gang have lifted there game as well as being site sponsors now, most here have learnt to shop around for quotes and get some feed back on service first.Good luck with your future purchase ,

I think your quote is the "Standard Pedders 28pt check quote" I too put my car in and got a similar 2k+ quote even though it had just been through a major service with no dramas.

Why they love changing power steering stuff also is beyond me

Just a note to everyone else on these chaecks you are getting keep in mind that steering & suspension is all we do & have done for a very long time now. So we know on what to look for & how to find a lot of problems that others may not have the knowledge to find.
Also in saying that shops that do mechanical repairs have to know a lot more than we do so they have information overload & very herd to remember it all so if they found the other issues the car may have you may think they are taking you for more of a ride being that this would create a bigger bill.
So please think twice before making comments on a specialist as some of us work very hard @ becoming the best at what we do & keep learning as we go as vehicles keep changing more than they ever have in the past.

Pedders are scammers mate

I bought a car recently and had a car inspection done on it and a mechanic serviced it. They both told me the car has a clean bill of health except with a minor suspension problem which will only cost 500 to fix and I should take it to a suspension specialist.

I took it to my local Pedders in Adelaide and they did an "inspection report" on it and came up with a job card with a few thousand dollars worth of fixes. I said my thank you and left with the car wondering whether they did damage to it to create work for themselves.

Clunk from under the body going over speed humps, and a regular knocking sound when doing a hard reverse...

Pedders quoted $1k worth of steering and suspension work...

It was actually a loose transmission mount bolt...

After reading this thread for a while I decided to give the local Pedders a call. Conversation went like this;

Me - "Hello, I'd like to book my car in for a safety check Please."

Them - "Yes we can do a check for you. What day would be convenient for you we are booked out for the next two days"

Me - "Not a problem, how about Thursday"

Them - "Done, can you have it to us by 08:30 am"

Me - "Sure, what time will it be ready"

Them - "About 5 pm"

Me - "What? A safety check takes all day"

Them - "No but we only do them in between other jobs"

Me - "I cannot leave the car all day, can I book it in for a set time"

Them - "sorry no. As I said we only do them in between other jobs"

Me - "Your kidding right"

Them - "No"

Me - "Ok thanks for your time"

Needless to say I will look elsewhere.

I agree there safety checks are crap i got one done for a front left clunk was adviced lower control arm bushes need replacemnt I replaced the swaybar link for 40 bucks problem solved however I also removed my front upper control arms to them and got my ballpoints pressed in and new ones out for free! Depends more the person I'd say then pedders themselves as I've had good service and absymal

While this quote is a bit extreme I'd like to say 2 things.
A. Which would you prefer them to say. Your car is fine then something major fail and causes an accident or you might want to look at these things.
B. get a second opinion.
C. FTE217 is a gun. I'd listen to what he says.

Pfft, safety check. You're actually paying them to quote you on work that "needs" to be done.

Guys these threads have been done to death,(as well as being in every section of the forums) Pedders are franchised, just like Ford Dealers and Workshops ,some are good some are better and some..well .. So if you want a check done ,for the cost it not a bad option , as for the repair bill you are under no obligation to get anything done at all.But at least you will know what is worn or wearing out and can make other arrangements for the repairs. Personally going to a good shop ( there are plenty listed in various threads ) to find out what the clunking noises are makes good sense to me before a major failure occurs ..
