Governments are keen to bomb them, but I can't help but think they could do better at cutting their supply lines. They have a lot of people on watch lists, surely they know who's involved in exporting the stolen cars.

But what else is cheap in plentiful supply and will stand a bit of abuse? Pretty much. No brainer really.

The Iraqi Army literally stripped down to their boxers and fled on foot as ISIS were approaching. They scored all the latest equipment that the Americans had given them. They were trying to drift in Hummer's and Abram tanks.

because toyota has dealer in syria
http://www.toyota-global.com/company...ddle_east.html

and ford doesn't
http://www.me.ford.com/
ford does have one in irag and afghanistan though

you want a factory trained tech doing your servicing.

in all seriousness
toyota image of reliability.
easy to get a hold of whether stolen in west and shipped over or getting used stock in middle east, hell all of the industrial sites around there would be using workutes and toyota would be selling like hotcakes along with f-trucks.

i remember reading an article which said that alot of the isis toyota's are special ops spec as modded by toyota/partner in texas some trd mods along with 50cal mount in back etc, can't find link atm so not exactly sure how true this is.

Question is, how do they manage to smuggle stolen Hilux's out of this country without raising suspicion from the authorities? Thought shipping yards would be one of the places to check for stolen vehicles.

I touched on this in post 28.

Judging by the sheer number of hiluxes that go missing and never recovered it does make you wonder if a more efficient system should be in place. Then again it takes a person to make the report or enter the data and they may be in on it anyway!

The number of containers being shipped, it would be impossible to check everyone. Not enough people on the docks.

I don't agree. If I get on a plane I'm screened several times and even a bottle of water is taken off me.

Thousands of people leave a main airport per hour. What are the fines involved if I try and act up at customs or try and not declare something?

If they applied the same seriousness to our docks they would need less staff and share the job between customs, border security, feds etc.

Fine the tripe out of the offenders as well as seize the thousands of cars and get some assets back.

Taking a bottle of water off people is ridiculous. I flew from Heathrow to Hong Kong with water, it wasn't confiscated in London but was on the Hong Kong to Brisbane flight! London it was in plain sight and nothing said!!

JG33 simple the answer is corruption every one has there hand out peoplei know who have been there say it is rife you can buy any thing at the right price if you grease the correct hands

One Tv show on Taliban income was interesting they stole truck loads of goods in the middle east and re sold some here else in the middle east

I have been told it is a major culture shock

there was also a UK tv show about this guy in the UK who stole only Top end cars the group used to steal the cars and ship to the middle east

we really are the lucky country in many ways

I worked on the Brisbane waterfront as a wharfie from 1987 up until 2008.

We had over 200,000 containers exchanged in 2008 alone across the Brisbane quayline on the port operator I worked for - DP World, let alone the other operators.

We worked with customs and they regularly requested about 30 containers a day to be sent out for x-ray and returned for import from the yard stacks. I know this as I was also a clerk and had to "program" the movements to and from the terminal.

I have no idea what the "trigger" was for inspecting said containers, that's out of our league as wharfies, however nearly all of these containers were imports.

Yes, resources were scarce, so customs concentrated what was coming into Australia, not going out.

A shipment of Toyota utes manifested as "car parts" bound for Europe would not bat an eyelid - there's plenty of destined routes with jumps and hops that are very difficult to track, especially when the route can be changed mid journey at the click of a mouse.

That's how the drug importers do it, it's only the lazy one's or the one's that get tipped on get caught.

Cheers!

Edit: No, I don't export Hilux's or import drugs.

I got a causal job once in Perth for two weeks this company had just imported a huge quantity of Italian food and beverages for the local Italian community

Half way through the last week about mid day about ten police cars Commonwealth police state police customs security stopped us all and search us asked question s

The customs dog alerted on one container

Any way after opening it and unloading it they found 20 cases of a Italian coca cola type drink smashed

that is what the dogs picked up

I did now mind we were on a hourly rate and it took 3 hours to sort out

Basically it was all left their for them to carry out what they have done.

It stuck out like dogs balls what was going to happen as soon as that moronic dipstick leader of the USA said he wanted to pack up and were out of their.

Who would of guest that would of happened ? no one B/S everyone who knows who they are dealing with, knew full on what was going to take place and plenty people I know said as such before hand, that it was inevitable and only a moron could not comprehend what was on the cards due to such clowns.

Italian Coca Cola? Hmm sounds like Chinotto! Bit like Dr Pepper, you either like it or hate it. Some say it actually tastes similar to Dr Pepper.

About 18 months ago I advertised a 1995 Hilux for sale on gumtree. The car was bought by a fella from Nauru, his mate on a visa I imagine presented a international licence and cash, no test drive just a cursory look over it and knocked me down 50 bucks. Photocopied his licence and made him fill out a stat declaration witnessed by a J.P . Only needed it regoed to get to the port so I saved a few bucks there. When renewal time came up had to go to transport dept. with all sales p/work to prove we had disposed of it legally though. They didn't blink an eyelid.
Obviously shipping it out wasn't a problem either, never had anyone contact us to verify it's status, and considering the paperwork is only useful to someone wanting to register in their name within Australia it may well be easy to make something legit.
Wonder what would happen if it was under finance though?

Should start batting some eyelids soon, should only be cars/parts coming into the country.

I think it would be impossible to search all the containers with the sheer volume, but I still think they would know who's involved, who's stealing them, buying them and exporting them. They may not bust them because if they do they then have to find their replacements, but i'd think shipments could be intercepted somewhere.

For the average guy in Australia who says the right side of the law do not realize how the other half live

There are a group of people who are happy to live in the wrong side of the law and many are lucky not to get caught

The difference is they have no remorse or thought s on stealing your property from cars to household goods

the fact that you works your butt off to buy certain item means nothing to them

also in some country bribery and corruption is a way of life

just imaging a guy working in the docks in some 3rd world country he get $10 a week and a guy says here is $100 just to ignore that container

what is he going to do ?

Actually why do they use vehicles made by non-believers.
In their theology, If the world should be rid of non-believers, why are they using products made by them?
