Another taken in by peak torque. Have a think how easy it is for the 4JJ1-TC engine that does stirling duty in a 5 tonne truck then only has to pull a 2 tonne D-MAX? Exactly why nearly every horse float here uses a Max for towing!

You said to get our heads around area under the curve. Can you tell me which has more area under the curve, Dmax/MUX or Colorado/7?

The line about truck engine doing it easy in a Dmax sounds like something straight out of a Dmax brochure. Could someone else have been sucked in by marketing?

The 4JJ1-TC engine is straight out of Isuzus 5 ton truck.

I will go check that out while you tell me which has more area under the curve.

By the way I know the Dmax has a truck engine. That wasn't my point.

I think you will find the gearing is different for good reason.

If you can't work out the difference between the same engine in a 5 ton vehicle or a 2 ton vehicle you have a big problem

Dodgy figures vs reality? Put one on a 2000kg float and see what happens. Oh and easily retuned too

I wouldn't go on anything old john codogan "motor expert" says or "dyno sheets" he draws up, as that bloke doesn't even seem to drive the vehicles he talks about.
I found the same thing... Whilst not on the same day I drove my Brothers 2014 Colorado 4x4 Manual and My mates 2015 Dmax 4x4 Auto and the dmax was a much better drive...

Neither of them held a candle to the new Ranger's though....

Not a fan of the Amarak either TBH.. Had a drive in a mates Comfortline 4x4 Dual cab and apart from the interior being nice with heaps of space I didn't think it went all that well....

One thing I will say though, a lot of my friends are jumping ship to dual cab 4wd's...lol

Except I've driven both multiple times and the Colorado 2.8L engine is better.

My uncle has had two, and has been very happy with both of them. He's done the Kidney Kar Rally in his a couple of times, and it's never missed a beat. He recently saw his first one around on the road (as he fitted a non standard bullbar and lights), and the new owner is very happy with it as well.

are you are having a laugh mate? that motor sucks and id rather have a isuzu truck motor any day. the 2.8 is fast but its rough and noisy and quite an unreliable motor. also its very thirsty, my b-i-L gets about 15lph and his ute carry only about 200kg a day

Nope I've had both in my workshop for accessory fitment and electric brake setups and I reckon the Colorado is nicer to drive.

Again for the slow we're talking about a tow vehicle, not 'niceness to drive'. Some people.........

It's no truck engine. A light duty ute engine they've dropped into their small truck with six speed gearbox and gearing good for about 130kmh. With a following of floggers justifying their overpriced purchase by claiming its from a truck maker.
Put any engine infront of that gearing and it will pull 5 tonne.
When I worked at an Isuzu dealer this engine was breaking rocker arms in the NNR trucks. Don't know if they are still doing it but they might need to be under a bit more load than doing the shopping run in urban areas like most of these Utes are used for.

Claiming it's from a truck maker?? Isuzu is the market leader in Oz in small, medium and now the large truck segments. Easy enough to verify

So is Holden but it doesn't mean their product is any good (3.6L boat anchor).

Market leader in sales... Extensive nationwide dealer back up, decades old tech and cheap retail price is a recipe for good sales. McDonalds of the commercial vehicle sector pretty much sums it up.
