The ECU doesn't "lose it's tune" as you say but rather it learns your bad habits over time. A Reset will fix this issue.

Fuel consumption can be just associated with the way you drive. If I flog my car, Ill get 250k's to the tank around town. Get it on a highway and Ill see 600.

What does it smell like? My TE will smell a little bit upon start up as it runs rich when its cold, but after that its fine. What fuel do you run?

If it smells, it's a sure sign your cat is stuffed (which you already know). Why use premium? You're only pouring money down the drain, as the AU ECUs only need normal ULP and don't adjust if you put a higher rated fuel in.

If you are getting 400 to 450km around town, that's about standard for the good old ford I6.

Pull the battery terminals off every 2 months or so, that should help with your fuel consumption issues

It it recommended that i use 95RON+ in my TE though.

I wasn't aware they made a TE with an I6 in it. The "Synergy" V8 (200kw jobbie) and the 200kw and the T3 motors all need Premium, but premium in a car that doesn't have a tune, nor the capability to adjust for the RON rating of PULP, just isn't required.

The only benefit in running the higher octane fuels in the I6 is that most of those fuels have cleaning additives that standard ULP doesn't (at least Vortex 94 & 98 does, not sure about Shell, mobil etc) which helps keep the injection system clean.

A lot of European and some Japanese 90's and early 00's model cars recommend to run on PULP, but will run on ULP as they drop the tune a bit and retard the timing for the lower grade fuel (mostly to cope with the standard of US fuels). The good old I6 falcon (at least up to AU3) does not do the opposite.

You can tell your self that you'll get an extra 50km per tank, and more throttle response etc on PULP, but it's all in your head.

Fixed that up for you.
No need to get shirty i was just making a valid point. You did say AU ECU's not I6 ECU's.

Thanks - hit the wrong number twice! That wasn't shirty, that was sarcasm, and I said AU ECU in relation to I6.

Anyway, the point's been made, up to the OP wether he listens or not, but as I'm not his mate, and we all know how much his mate knows, this might all be over water off a ducks back.

well i have just come back from my exhuast shop, they put the car on the hoist and found my exhuast bolts on the head are lose, and the flange which connects my cat to my exhuast system has blown the gasket out and is leaking, but my cat is not stuffed, cat is still in perfect condition

so for all you guys who kept telling me i am polluting the air, well i have just proved you wrong
