I know I don't have an AU but when I just recently went from running 95RON to 98RON with some 95RON still left in the tank it didnt effect the car at all so you should be right Joe. I also have noticed that my car goes harder when it's in Performance Auto rather rather than in Performance Manual. Strange?

95 with the 98 tune resulted in pinging for me over 4 grand. 98 on 95 is fine.

What speed are you pulling in second and what revs across the line?

Alot of hearsay about this topic. 98 octane allows a slower burn and therefore more ignition timing can be added. 95 burns quicker and tends to ping if the tune suits a 98 octane fuel.

Around 147 in second, I think its around 6200-6400. Nothing like a 250 000k old engine revving like that with a three inch exhaust, lol.

got the tuner back just before, i put the 98 oct tune in, all was until i tried to boot it, it would reach 4k and just go da da da da loud as and cut out! so it pretty much wouldnt let me past 4200rpm's.

Put the 95 oct tune in first impressions! Throttle response difference is so noticable its really good, also the car drives very smoothly, kicks downs a little earlier too, i believe overall performance gain is minimal so far, only took it for a 5 min drive just to make sure it ran fine on the tune, dont know where the limter is set as i didnt punch it too hard but enough to get a feel of it. First impressions are good, also the shifts firmer. Hopefully fuel usage is better.

You sure you loaded the 98 tune? Sounds like you may have put the valet tune in by mistake.

The idea of using these generic tunes scares me. I have mine sitting in the cupboard still as I want to do a few thing and get the car on a dyno to tune it in correctly. Kpm were great to deal with so not in anyway bagging them but seriously guys go and read all of this thread from the beginning. Most of you are complaining about pinging issues. This is not GOOD for your engine in any way shape or form. The generic tunes are just that. If you have modified anything at all it will be incorrect for your car. The car the original programs were written for, if it was standard as it should of been and yours is not than it will change all of the settings. Lets not also forget to take into account the different klms on all of the vehicles. As the motors get older they get more worn out and therefore so do other things like coil packs therefore changing the strength of your spark. The point I'm getting at guys is we got these at a great price. Be happy with your great saving and do yaself a favour and get it dynoed properly as I would hate to think of the DAMAGE you are doing to your PRIDE & JOYS.
This is only my opinion! :

At the end of the day the serious damage may not be serious damage until the car has done 50,000klm.

KPM along with any other supplier of generic tunes will advise having it checked on a dyno.

That would be the valet tune, thats exactly what it does in my car, you also wont be able to go over 80. Mine has only ever pinged when Ive used the wrong fuel, have been using it for 40 000 k's, no probs yet.

How do you know that it is running rich? As Brendan said, maybe you are just giving it more poke.
