I actually saw this tonight and what I can not understand is if they have your plates (they were in full view on the video) why do people need to call up if they know who it is??

Surely the police or Vic Roads can find out who it is through their respective databases....Sorry but that confused the heck out of me. Anyone care to clarify??

Thats just their spin so they can justify airing the story, to help the police.

Truth is, they arent in the business of doing police surveilance work, so whenever something like this pops up they make it sound like a nationwide manhunt, when infact the guy is proberbly being bailed as we speak.

They need to fill the 1/2 hour with something, this clown nominated.

vehicle crushing - a concept that was introduced for no other reason than to appease the pitchfork weilders. As much as I don't necessarily agree with the car confiscation laws (essentially just a very big fine - variable amount depending on the value of the confiscated car) they're still a significantly better option than crushing, which is simply a waste. but I must admit, a crushing is such a wonderful spectacle - probably the closest we'll get to a public hanging.

I too get frustrated by the media beat-up that goes on with 'hoons'. dangerous driving, speeding, street racing, whatever. People carry on like this is some awful new problem, but it's been going on since before there were cars. I'm sure people used to get annoyed at people galloping their horses flat out down the main street of town. The problem cannot be completely removed so they should stop carrying on about it so much. No matter the penalty, you'll never completely remove the problem, and the answer is not to keep increasing the penalty. Have any other crimes been completely stamped out by increasing penalties? Even when faced with the death penalty people still commit murder and carry drugs into asia and all that. At the point someone decides to do something illegal (in this case drive like an idiot), they obviously are not expecting to be caught, so the size of the penalty is irrelevant as they're not expecting to get it anyway - its not the size of the penalty that will stop them but the likelihood of being caught, so about the only thing that might make a difference is increased police presence - all the other 'hoon law' stuff is just a crazy PR stunt...
People just need to calm down and leave the police to do what they've always done, which is catch people breaking the law. If you catch someone breaking the law and it bothers you, tell the cops. This media involvement is achieving nothing except to reinforce a negative stereotype for all performance car owners

There are plenty of videos on youtube of people doing burnouts etc on the streets.

If you are stupid enough to post it up on there, or do it in front of people with a camera, with your plates visible then you deserve what you get...

For once i agree with you Galaxy. The general public know the difference between an enthusiast and a hoon. Probably why i have never been pulled over and my friends with actual nice older cars get passed over all the time.
Nobody can say that a 60's - 70's car driven well is the same as a VN. It's all about driving attitude.

In this guys case crushing might have been cheaper

I got this from another car forum so no direct links to the original article, sorry.

A SWEDISH motorist is facing the world's biggest speeding fine of more than a million dollars after being caught driving at 290km/h on a Swiss motorway.

Police said the 37-year-old man was driving his Mercedes at 2½ times the speed limit, so fast it took him some distance to stop.

In Switzerland speeding fines are worked out using a formula based on the income of the motorist and the speed.

Prosecutors says that he is now facing the highest possible penalty of 300 days of fines at 3600 Swiss francs a day, a total of Sfr 1,080,000 ($1.13 million).

''We have no record of anyone being caught travelling faster in the country,'' a police spokesman said.

He was caught by a speed camera on the A12 highway between Bern and Lausanne last Friday. He escaped being caught by numerous radar traps en route simply because he was going too fast and they were incapable of clocking speeds beyond 200km/h.

A new generation of radar machines finally caught him travelling at close to 300km/h.

''I think the speedo on the car, which is new, is faulty,'' he told police by way of an explanation.

The police arrested him shortly afterwards and released him after questioning.

Benoit Dumas, a police officer in the region where the car was stopped, said: ''He needed over half-a-kilometre of road to come to a halt.''

It has happened before, M1 carpark (when it existed) I know of 2 being personaly offered $50 to do a skid when leaving, the one who accepted ended up on today tonight on an undercover camera.... so that I would believe, however seems a stretch of the truth after watching this video.

As for the rest of the comments, I stand by my first post.

He is an easy target due to him being a #### however, there are worse drivers than him on a daily basis and they arnt doing skids, however their actions and stupidity have the same potential of a fatal accident as this moron, however the 65yo who mistakes the brake for accelerator or coasts through a stopsign on a main road, or stops on a merge lane to the M1 freeway just dosent have the "hoon image" for headline news *cough*.

You can't be serious, the only part of your sentence that make's sense is the fact that there are worse driver's out there and the action's of those can be just as devasting, but seriously, you can not call an elderly person with slow reflexes or misguided or what ever, a "hoon" like this moron clearly doing "hooning activity" it is completey different.
Most elderly people do not want to loose their indipendence, would you ??, clearly their action's on the road could be a tragedy, but to put them in the same category as a "hoon" is clutching at straws.

I have one thing to say to those that are clearly getting offended by ACA and the like's,
What would you do if a family/friend member was killed or seriously injured by someone like this fella "fabzz" and went to trial and was found not guilty or given a suspened sentence or community service or a good behaviour bond and everyday you were left with the reminder of his action's and seen it posted on youtube and other's praising his action's, all for the glarifaction of his ego, could you live with it ?, or would you want to change the system and the way people get punished, where would you go to tell your story ??
Just stop for one minute and think if it was you in that scenario, How would you feel ??
Would you feel angry about ACA doing a story on this "hoon" trying to get him of the street's and get the message accross that , you are not invinceable, or would you feel it was an attack on all car enthuist's,
Who are you really angry at here, ACA or the idiot that is sterotyping us......

theres far far far more people killed on the roads every year through careless and/or stupid driving than hooning.

i agree this guys an idiot, and no doubt he will get whats coming, but there is far bigger issues on the roads than him. how about aca devoting some tv time to the consequences of fatigue, or lack of driving skills, or drink driving, or unroadworthy vehicles or any other of the myriad of causes of road deaths.

alright the guys a douche but where is there a legal place for him to drive like that? as far as I am aware there is nowhere that he can drive like that, if we closed all the football ovals soccer, basketball and tennis courts the minorities that enjoy these facilities will do it somewhere else, likely on suburban streets because "there is nowhere else" then they will set about moaning for a facility so they can get off the streets how is the behavior this guy exhibited any different?, One day this nation will wake up and realise you cant pick and choose which minorities you pander to and which ones you do not...

Alot of that fall's under the meaning "having little respect for other road user's" doesn't it.
What I am trying to get accross, as far as I am concerned anyone causing trouble like you have mentioned is a hoon in my mind, cause they have no respect for other road user's.

Couldn't agree more, but this wouldn't be good for Tv ratings. The issue with lack of driving skills is that most people are naive to the fact that they are poor drivers. Or drink driving, just watch that RBT show, I only had 12 beers officer, thought i was still right to drive officer.

no its not.

If you have driver 'x' who is (lets call it what it is) reckless driving, and he collides with another vehicle after taking the corner wide while skateing up the road, driver of the other car is DEAD.
Then you have driver 'y' who is far to old to be operating a car, fails to give way and takes out a motorbike rider, biker/bikie ends up DEAD.

Notice how 2 people ended up dead due to gross incompetiance on the road? but I know what one would be front page news or ACA worthy and what one would be filed on the 5th page or not aired so as not to upset their main demographic....

People stay alive on the roads because they have survival instincts greater than a lemming, by simply saying you were right because you obey'd all the road rules dosent make you any less dead.

He is a moron, ive never supported what he did but I will never while this earth is turning believe the utter garbage ACA TT serve up to the sheep of society to boost ratings on hype/misconceptions and or lies.

And above all else, noting i havent quoted anything/one regarding my two examples,(although i know of both instances happening) but everyone is in this HYPE of what could have happened..... but fact remains it DIDNT happen so speculating that it could/would/should have is a mute point really.

I agree... ACA only exist because of sensationalist journalism and all the drama queens who enjoy said shows...

They show a photo of a man and say:
Is this a mass murderer or is he just just misunderstood!
Hello! McFly! The answer always lies somewhere in between...
But if we don't sensationalise our mediocre boring story, then no-one's really gonna watch it, are they!

Don't stick up for them too much guys, they're the same FWITS who screamed that our muscle cars are killing our kiddies in 1971 which destroyed any future of our beloved you know what!
