I spent 10 days touring accross the good old U S of A, did a total of 1,500 ish miles from Chicago to New York.

Freeway cruising 80 ~ 90 mph for ours on end., freeway speed limit is 65mph No issues with the cops unless your over 100.

Bazaar world where you're cruising at 70~75 and you keep getting passed by semi's. They all cruise at 80 as well

Never faster than the posted speed limit. If I even go 1kmh over ill flip out of control & barrel roll through crowds of women, children, cyclists, bunny wabbits, puppies & kittens. Before bursting into flames and dying a slow-roasted death because of my evil, psychotic hooning ways...

NT in 2004 for hundreds of km's at 220 ish, and I survived.

Now my fastest on public roads in appropriate conditions is up to 140 km/h, legally.

153km/h at Perth Motorplex, possibly a little faster after the 400m mark. It was fun.

Engine responds very well to mods, but auto gearbox can become unsettled trying to cope with the extra torque. Good fuel economy overall: 9-12L/100km city, 8L/100 country.

questioning the opening post, why is a full time track not counted? If you're doing it legally on a road, it'll be closed (or no long existing) anyway. So much the same.

1/4 - 114MPH (~190kph)
Oran Park, >200 (need to grab 5th)
Eastern Creek > 240
Winton > 180

top speed on the road is overrated and incorrect anyway. Speed for the situation is much more important. 110 is legal in many places, but would be very dangerous say down Paramatta Rd. and way under the limit on say the M4 at 3am

Sat on 159km/h for an hour and a half between LA and Las Vegas on the I5.

The rental engine cut out at 160 even though there was 6 litres under the bonnet.

It just seemed perfectly safe after about 10 minutes of driving.

Especially when i was getting overtaken by motor homes that were towing a Hyundai on a tow bar on the back.

Have gone faster at times but after 160 it's a different world.

Gotta love Germany. I was lucky enough to have my exchange partners dad take delivery of his brand spanking new BMW (can't remember what model) the week before I got there, meaning the first time he went on an autobahn was my first time too. GOt to sit there and listen as the engine kept getting quieter up to 240km/h. Very impressive, but I found the fun part wasn't the speed, just getting there was

NT just weeks before the world ended in a clients blown clubsport - 257 indicated on the satnav. It didn't feel too safe at that speed though a little longer probably would have lessened that. Cooling down to 220/ish made a world of difference.

Did around 220 (indicated) in a BA XR6 which felt remarkably good for about 15-20 mins, so good on that trip to see the kms counting down at a healthy rate on the run back toward Darwin.

I don't think I've ever concentrated more on the task at hand (on a public road) than those trips...

130kms/hr from the outskirts of Alice springs to the SA border and 3 ways crossing back to the Queensland border down the Barkly Highway. I haven't done 3 ways crossing to Darwin so I don't know how far the 130 zone extends north.
These are all good roads in great condition with 600km's of nothingness....
A rouge kangaroo or cattle on the Barkly will end your fun pretty quickly

240 km/h a couple of times in a Holden LS1, somewhere near that speed in a Volvo C70 convertible too (with the roof down).

i boycott any 110 zone, because they are just so damn dangerous. it is part of my one man crusade to prove . . . . something, and it must be working because i am still alive

back on topic, i always drive at 10% lower than the limit and in school zones i even get out and push my car through it. you cannot be too careful in an old car with no beeper

"110kph officer..."

Yes this country needs much better main highways...but think of how easy it is to get a drivers licence. Now look around you at the average "standards" most drivers seem to be operating under...you'll really notice this if you also ride a motorbike.

No consider what would happen to the road toll if you said to these people "OK, here's the highway, you can do whatever speed you consider to be fine"...

Well no it is not actually the same at all.

Full time race tracks are short, only have short straights to allow high speed and are not built out of the same materials or comply with the same standards as roads as opposed to part time tracks like Mt Panorama etc.

NT open zones were restricted to 130 (or 110) in 2007 and will probably remain so until the southern occupational forces are driven out.

The last open zone I found in QLD was about 2 years ago but it has gone now. :(

And although I have been on unrestricted zones in NSW I was not old enough to drive at the time.

What goes around, comes around and the sky is always darkest before the dawn........

You seem confused.

Speeding is not going fast.

Speeding is exceeding a number on a sign.

130 in a 130 zone is not speeding but 11 in a 10 zone is........

I saw a sign in country NSW 2 days ago that said "No speed signs, drive to conditions"

Does that mean I can do 150 on the long clear straights?
Or am I still limited to the NSW limit of 110?
