No, I asked you to back up your original statement and gave to the chance to show that you are not a silly kid with a keyboard who just makes comments without actual reasioning.

You have done exactly what I expected you to do which was not detail an answer and then act like a silly kid with a keyboard.

Would you like to prove me wrong and show why you think that doing one thing without the correct licence is different from doing another thing without the correct licence?

Translation. "I cannot actually detail why as it is just my personal feeling and now I have been pushed into a corner I am going to act like a kid with a keyboard neh neh neh neh".

I actually assume most members are adults, but sometimes I am wrong.

This thread has gone way off track. The thread opener stated that he owned a vehicle that he will not be able to drive and asked for advice.
Some of it was sensible and others were not so.
There was a definite trend by some to advise that the law was silly and that various fraudulent methodology could or should be employed so as to facilitate the illegal operation of the vehicle without getting caught.

This is extremely foolish as the potential penalties could lead to a total ruination of your entire life. e.g. Fatal or maiming accident or collision with a Rolls Royce etc.

There is a disturbing trend, particularly but not exclusive to our younger members to disregard laws that they do not like or support. Again this is foolish because the Police and Court systems just love these attitudes. It gives them something to do.

Bottom line. If you knew you could not drive the car yet bought it anyway and want to make a special exception just for you then you are being unrealistic and selfish.
There is a reason why P platers have been limited. It is the same reason why motorcycles have been limited for years.

The AVERAGE P plater is a very inexperienced unskillful and potentially dangerous driver and although I am fully aware that P plate AFF members are only banned from driving V8 Supercars because they would embarrass Lowndes and Skaife by lapping them in the first 5 minutes, the laws are made for the AVERAGE and we all have to wear it.

If you REALLY think it is wrong then remember when you vote. Of course if both side ara against you then you are buggered aren't you.

I drove an XD Fairmont 351 on my P's. Never had any hassles, even when being done for speeding. If you are courteous to the officer they will usually leave you alone, if your going to be a smart **** expect to get done over. As 302's were legal for P platers it was easy to get away with, there's no way they can tell the difference. Probably not now with these new rules though, but if you need a ute as a work vehicle I think you shouldn't have a problem getting an exemption, it might help to say you tow or haul heavy loads and need a V8 to do it.

xd brad.

Simple answer is apply for exemption. If you get it you have dotted the i's and crossed the t's if anything untoward was to happen.

Trying to deceive anyone, especially cops, by rebadging, etc, would not be a bright thing to do in my mind. Getting caught out if something did happen will probably put you in alot more hot water than just pleading ignorance. Then again pleading ignorance is no defence!

Maybe come back to the forum after the exemption has failed?

Cheers.

As you are only a child (26yo) you would not remember what gun ownership in Australia was like before 1996. At that time almost EVERYONE owned guns of all types and buying a pistol or auto rifle legally was easier than getting a motorbike licence.

The laws changed, just like the P plate laws now.
Many spewed about it, just like the P plate laws now.
Many said get stuffed, I will do what I like, just like the P plate laws now.
Many got into a LOT of trouble, some even jailed..........

The mere fact that you think that driving unlicenced is totally different to unlicenced posesssion of a handgun shows you have no concept of how the legal system works and how laws are applied to the general public...
Haha now your insulting me?

I do know what the gun laws were like. All of my family members owned guns. But that is not the point. Just to remind you of what he actually said.

Iv heard you can get your employer to write a letter, I get my P`s in september so the restrictions apply.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Brad.
You did say there were some stupid replys and in my first post I said that it was fair enough to point out the consequences of driving illegally, but again guns are a different topic altogether.

I think you said it well here flappist.

He is just one person suffering an unnecessary cost due to the new laws that I believe should not have been introduced in the first place.

Give the guy a break because he is trying to do the right thing and you jump on your high horse and compare it to illegally buying a pistol?? WTF is with that?
Keep coming up with unprovoked crap like this and you will find that you will get insulted and treated like a fool quite a lot.

My original comment was not aimed directly at the thread opener, if it were I would have quoted him as I quote you now. My comment was directed generally at those whose attitude is "the law sucks so I will not comply".

Respect and credibility on AFF are earned over a period of time and a number of posts.

If you wish to be treated with respect then the first thing you must do is treat others the same way, unless of course the others attack you first in which case treat them as they treat you.......

I find this comment rather meaningless respect should not be earned over time it should be instantly given respect for other people on a forum should be necessity not who you agree with and who craps on the most posts. And yes flappist if you insult me then you get treated the same way you can twist what you say all you want flappy and crap on about how you gave me a chance to go into detail about what i personally thought but the fact is you added the silly little kid comment and ya didn't have to so stop being a stubborn old man and get back on topic your constant defense of yourself adds nothing to this thread and nothing to your credibility you've answered the main thread bearer's question so leave the thread the mere fact you keep coming back shows how insecure you are that you couldn't possibly be the bigger man and just not defend yourself you make me LOL to quote a silly little kid with a keyboard.

Easiest solution is to apply for the exemption, If you cant get an exemption for it I'd be buying a $1000 shitter to get by in. A XF or ea that is in roadworthy (cosmetics isnt important) can be had for under a grand with ease.

Dont sell the car as you will end up pulling your hair out because of it.

Agreed, when i said their is a way around these things, i meant paperwork, it's a pain in the @$$ and Vicroads are yet to send me my latest rejection letter but apply for an exemption, this is the only Legal way around it, then you don't have to worry about misleading Insurance, Vicroads, The Police, Etc

Do it right and you won't have a problem, do it like half the guys on here are talking about you could well find yourself in a very bad position if you have an accident.

Just find a manual EA S-pack and have some fun, then you wont have to worry about being pulled up.
Bottom line, you will not be allowed to drive your ute legally without an exemption. Whether you want to listen to the children, whack on a 4.1 badge or 2 and risk it, you deserve to get caught for trying to play the authorities/insurance company for chumps...And both will most likely laugh at you and punish you to their full extent.

I know exactly what you are saying and see your point of veiw, but I think the power to weight ratio is a good thing, I do think the rules are too ambiguous for banning certain cars, I personally almost like your idea of just allowing 4 cyl cars, but then there are cars like WRX's and Skylines etc. I say rather than banning certain cars they would be better to have an "ALLOWED CAR" List.

As for your ute problems get yourself a cheap Hilux or Bravo until you are able to drive the car you have or would like to.

P.S. My "allowed car list" would consist of cars like:

Suzuki Mighty Boy's
Daihatsu Charade
Nikki

That type of car. I'm sure you get the idea without putting a huge list up.

How long have you owned the ute for Brad? Ie was it before the new restrictions were announced? If so that may work in your favour in trying to get an exemption. Otherwise as others have said I'd be swapping either the motor or the whole ute (don't sell it if you can avoid it!) while you are on your P's.

Even under the old/current P plate restrictions a 351 would have been illegal for you to drive (unless XD utes are a lot heavier than I am thinking!) so it's not like the new regs have done this to you.

iv had it since feb and the ute by the rego sticker says 1500kg i did sum figuers lol and im pretty sure that the power to weight is 124kw per tonne at fly wheel or somthin like that and then i would be able to go up 2 around 160kw and the 351 in it has about 140kw standard ( i cant rememba the exact power figure but it was about that i got those figues from a grouse thread on this site it had cars from x-b series power figures)

It isn't the power that would have been the consern, it would have been the engine capacity to weight ratio that they would have pulled him up for.
