I put a sign around my neck saying "Convicted Pedophile".
For some reason they never come back.

Such an American tradition that it originated in Ireland where it is still very popular. It is celebrated in quite a few countries.

Didn't have any chocolate or lollies. Gave the trick or treaters a can of sliced beetroot (true!). Hope they don't egg my house!

I was actually prepared this year with a bag of snack size mars bars.
Not one single knock, so I ate them all myself :

Apparently we got a whole heap of them, guess I was lucky for once doing the close at work. It wasn't that long ago that I was a kid and we never even thought of celebrating anything to do with halloween.
Why are kids doing it all of a sudden? What actually sparked it here in Aus?

2 years ago the bastards egged the commodore cos we didnt have candy. the next year i took guard with the hose.. not many came back this year.
i absolutely hate it. its a PITA. you wouldnt go knocking on some1s door any other day begging.. wat about dont take candy from strangers? this night just seems to have no point at all. my first 1 went a bit like this -door knocks -open the door TRICK OR TREAT - look at them expressionless for a few seconds -slam the door -put on music |

Amazing that we have the same thread every year here.
It's an Scottish/Irish tradition, not an American one!! |

Whether or not it originated in the States is a Moot point, the fact remains it's a tradition over there and is responsible for the little Australian "Halloween Beggars".

People here think that they hard done by having a couple of kids knocking on their doors for a few treats. Well I've actually been to Ireland and seen first hand what happens at Haloween time over there. Lets just say it was an eye opener, and local residents generally brace themselves... |

the American tradition part of it is the whole trick or treat for candy which is probs why a lot of people despise it so much here.

In this day and age as well with weirdo's on every corner! ... it's just amazing what some parents will allow their kids to do for a "free hand-out" even when clearly placing them in a position of obvious danger! |

How many here can say they went Trick or Treating when they were a kid? I didn't (no one I knew did) and I'm only 26.

i am never prepared for them, but why not give them lollies if they are polite. if we tell them to go away, are we not just encouraging them to lack respect for us too i went to the shops to get lollies around 8pm yesterday and thankfully no more showed up - so i will be popping a few zits this week |

The wife and I thought it'd be cute for the 2 year old to see some other kids dressed up. She was in her fairy costume, the door bell rang and who was there but 2 of the scariest monsters and the scream!!! She freaked out and I told them I would only give them lollies if they'd take off their masks and show that they were little boys. Took half an hour to try to explain that boys like to dress up as scary things while little girls like to dress up like fairies. Then the witches came knocking. We hate halloween too.

Me and the missus went out for tea just so I didn't have to deal with the crap.
We just made it too. Kids knocking on the neighbours door as we headed out the driveway. |

Halloween is gold-mine night for paedophiles.
"Come in...I have lots of lollies to suck on."

I imagine it is very exciting for the little kids, and i think it is the fault of the parents letting it continue. Little Johnny says 'but such and such is going to be doing it' and before long all kids are doing it because lets face it..who wants to miss out on some fun? And what parent wants to have the only kid in the street not involved. Having said that it does raise concerns about the quality of people out there, and who knows what they might dust those lollies in. I know my son does it every year and i don't like it, but when he is at his mums i have no say. I worry.

Never really bothered me too much, coz they would stock up with lollies for those kids that DID come knocking, and when it was all over, I think I would end up with more lollies than any of the trick or treaters ever got ;)

Halloween is AWESOME.....No so much the little gremlins knockin' on the front door, but the part when your running round egging and waterbombing houses!
