Just coming back from Werribee towards Caroline Springs half an hour ago, down Derrimut road, there was this crazy hilux driver. Seemed bent on trying to race for some reason, but I backed off at the speed limit. Next thing I know, he guns it and hits at least 110 straight towards a roundabout, with a Nissan Tiida just entering the roundabout from the right. The noise of the tyres as he locked up the brakes was unbelievable, and he missed T-boning the Tiida by centimetres. Dont know what was going through his mind at the time. :

cruising to Sydney with a few mates, 1st time ive really taken my falcon to the freeway since i bought it and the woad was wet. some of my mates were in another car pointing at my front wheel signalling something. so after a min i got a bit worried maybe i hit sumthing and had some sort of damage to my guard ... i dunno, got my mate to call the other car and ask what was going on and they replied with " ross' wheels are spinning" (as in turning the appropriot speed) so i was releived and decided to take the lead again. hit the acc at 90 ks to pick back up to 100 and bam there i am fishtailing on the freeway :| not fun. but where all ok the car seems to get control of itself.. wheels actually were spinning then

Coming down Yan Yean road one evening, doing 80 (the posted limit) a bloke in a van just blindly pulls out infront of us from Laurimar then realises we're coming and props in the middle of the road, thank god I took the Ghia that day there were inches left between my car and the front of the van. I seriously considered taking the old Toyota, if I had we would have been screwed. The van driver is probably lucky he just took off, otherwise he would have copped a serve for not paying attention.

Spoken like a true croweater from the 80s'. I myself used to keep the bong under my seat .

Long story short, came over a crest to find a woman asleep at the wheel coming towards me. She woke up and panicked, she went sideways and back to her side of the road, I was doing 100, thought I am going to have to put my first aid to the test here, then she went sideways back to my side, so I went on to the wrong side of the road. It was either that or stop and pray. She then flicked back, so back to my side it was, only there wasn't quite enough time, I collected her rear drivers side door. It was a mess but luckily I was not injured and I was able to get out of my car and call emergency services. The highway was shut down for 2 hours due to the amount of car peices on the road, yet I walked away with a little bruising internally. I still get nervous coming to that crest in the road and this is 4 years on.

Oh another one, when I was a stupid tennager I gunned it down hill doing 130 in an 80 zone. I was coming up to a round about, at that moment the brake booster bladder in my XE decided to burst, on comes the brake fail light and sure enough no brakes, I used second gear and the handbrake but I was going too fast, how I got through the roundabout between the 2 cars on my right I will never know. I learnt from my mistake.

Hit black ice in my old UC Torana on the way to work back in the 80's. On a slight bend, the rear end flicked around and next thing I am going backwards at about 80 k's. Thankfully no damage, but took me a while to work out what had happened.

Happened last night on the diagular highway heading towards Kingaroy.

Country road, at night, in the rain, single (narrow) lane each way, doing 100ks and an oncoming car about 50 mtrs away started to veer into my lane.
They got about half their car into my lane before snapping it back into their own lane just before we passed.

I dont know if it was somebody changing cd's or falling asleep or if it was some idiots -- being idiots.

I was driving a 56 seater coach with about 30 people on board.

It only lasted about two seconds but the heart rate must have tripled in those two seconds.

Today there was a Landcruiser ute turning right across 2 lanes of traffic. It would have been fine but someone has gone to turn from the other direction blocking his path. He had to stop in front of me, which I certainly wasn't expecting and had to jump on the brakes, as well as moving into the left lane to try and get around him. It certainly scared the hell out of me. It was an 80 zone, and I could have t-boned him.

Heading down South Coast (NSW) on the Princes Hwy just after Christmas a few years ago. Towing a Malibu wake boat with a BA XR6. Boat and car loaded with mates and gear - approaching 2 tonne (but not overloaded - Im carefull about that) Clear weather, midday and head lights on in 100km/h zone down a medium decline.

Within about 70 metres an old bloke simply enters the highway from a side road without looking (Lake Conjola Rd) straight into my lane (there was a lead in lane). How you can miss a blueprint XR with headlights on towing a white Mal with a huge tower is beyond any reasonable explanation. Braking completely out of the question. Wasn't going to make it undertaking into the slip lane. On the high beams and horn and he BRAKES (from about 20km/h - had made no effort to acclerate). I swerve around into the oncomming lanes when a car pulls out to overtake a semi. Opposite lanes had two - our direction had one, the loud pedal in the XR was absolutely mashed to the floor, pulled the boat back across thinking that the idiot should cop it rather than have a head on and must have missed him by mm. Pulled over down on the flat when safe and threw up. Guy just drove past looking straight ahead. One of my mates drove the rest of the way. Someone did it again to us further down the coast, just not as close.

Both times there was nothing behind us. Was that 2.5 seconds they had to wait really that long?

well here is one that is not really my scariest but still good.
when I was younger, I was at a party nd my mate was picking us up fomr the T intersection down the road, so we went down there and waited and we heard this guy doing a burnout at the party... Then heard him nail it. and he wasn't slowing down for the T intersection, then we saw him lock up go through a contry ditch then throuhg a barb wire fence, then a whole heap of girls jump out screaming, we got picked up not long after, but talking to my mates dad (copper) turns out he did a runner, then came back a few hours later smashed and tripped over and went through a star picket and was in critical condition thats my awesome story

This was more than 30 years ago but I still get angry when I recall it. I was following a truck on the way to Hyden (I had three passengers) and the driver slowed and waved me to pass him. When I got along side the truck he deliberately swerved pulled over on me and ran me off the road while giving me the finger . I was doing the 110 Km/he speed limit passing and had to dodge the white post driving into the dep and large (almost car width) culverts running along side the road. I was lucky not to roll or damage the car or injure anyone. We reported the matter to the local constabulary who were not interested. Despite the three collaborating witnesses, their view was he was a local so I must have done something wrong. I never did trust another truckie who waved me past.

Oh and in 1976 driving through the Snowies on a road between Vic and ACT that was one car width wide with a vertical drop on my left side and rounding a corner to find farmer Jones with an overloaded truck of hay bails taking up the full road with and going flat tack. I just don't know how we squeezed past each other without touching and me going over the edge. The truck did lose a few bails off the load sideswiping the mountain wall on the other side though. We obviously both thought quickly and moved as far as possible to the edge of the narrow road.

Driving back from my sisters place, i was following a new F-250 the whole way, when a water truck doing 20 under pulled three quarters off the road on a bridge, so old mate f-250 and i went to go around him, the next thing i see is an old datsun 'oversized' escort vehicle blaring its horn and then, not even 2 seconds later, a Peterbilt truck with one of those huge bulldozers comes past. All 3 of us weaved between eachother, as if rehearsed. It would heve been inches between the dozer and my A pillar.

I followed old mate for another 20 K's. At the lights in shepp when i pulled up next to him, and he goes "mate, that was effed up"
I was shaking the whole way back...
