There was a red coupe at the Brisbane All Ford Day that looked a lot like that. I think it may have had those plates on it too.

I can't imagine Eric's car ever making it onto the public roads. You would have a lot of trouble registering it.

Those plates are general plates I believe. Much like my GCG351 or GCG plates

The speical interest registration plates are not black and white personalised in style. They need to be differentiated from general plates i thought

Keen to know why you believe it is special interest registered.

Given that he runs it in targa, and targa cars need to be registed. I can't see the car being registed under normal rego rules because of things like the roll cage, suspention mods etc...

Understand where you are coming from

However, I believe the car in the picture is registered for all intents and purposes under the same class of registration as my XR8 or Landau.

It is road registered. Not as a special interest car, just road registered the same as any other car

If I had the money, and that was my car, you can bet your sweet Aunt Mable I would spend whatever amount on it to repair it. This is like one of his children and I am glad to see it back together, back on the road and Eric behind the wheel again

Glad he's got the money to get it all back into excellent shape.

I know some might begrudge Eric with the means to get what he wants, but he's a top Aussie bloke, who's spent years with his mates working on that car before he had the means.

That counts for a lot in my book.

Careful reading of the ADR's and other mechanical modification guidelines will let you get away with some amazing stuff. Get the right engineer with a creative mind to get around problems, and you could well register something like Erics car. Wild suspension? As long as it's all done properly and safely and to code, there's nothing wrong with it.
You're replacing old-tech suspension with new tech stuff and big brakes...that can only make the car safer. It certainly doesn't look like it's been lowered into the weeds below the regulation height from the ground...in fact it looks higher off the ground that most street cars. Off the shelf you can buy stuff like RRS bolt-in rack and pinion front ends and strut suspension for old Fords, which under an old Falcon would look just as radical, but a hell of a lot safer.

Time and money...they're the two limiting factors in most peoples rebuilds. If you have plenty of each, you can end up with a truly wild car that's also completely street legal.

Who would declare it a write off? Car gets crashed on race track, goes to repair shop, gets repaired, then gets rego.

Great to see this car back!!!

I could be wrong, but I'm sure that is Beach road, Brighton/St kilda (Vic).

I couldn't imagine someone with Eric's public profile, driving his car on a public road if it wasn't 100% kosher.

Unlike myself at times, and perhaps one or two other here

That's a good summary, some examples I have done in recent years include the quad cam V8 into RN-85 hilux, the turbo AU that was constructed from advice from this forum and tele-support from SNORT, the CR480 air cooled motorcross come track bike bike being accepted by an engineer for compliance as an IT465 (motard) by using 1/2 a 465 frame with compliance plate. (the bike is still in my shed).

Some examples I have seen redefine the boundaries. Its amazing what you can do within the rules.

In the 80's a mate; built, engineered and registed a twin turbo V8 T-bucket hot rod. He got around the requirement for heater/dimister and windscreen wipers by removing the front windscreen

Sorry back on topic!

Yep that's the one from the AFD in Brissy same plates and everything, I'm pretty sure it was a tribute car. I'm sure there was a few photos of the day posted up and that was in them.

I believe there's no actual requirement in the ADRs that says you must have a windscreen (unless of course the car originally had one)...especially with individually constructed cars like hot rods and specials. I know several guys with old cars like MG Midget specials and Austin 7 specials that don't even have a windscreen or wipers...or at most a small flyscreen in front of the driver, and they are fully road registered.
