What does it matter to a 'gawker' whether it's a replica, a GT, or GT HO??

In the big picture:

A Phase 3 GTHO is sitting in a park.

75% of people would think it is an old car.

15% of people would think it is an old Falcon.

10% of people would think it was an old GT Falcon.

5% of people would think it was an XY GT Falcon.

4% of people would think it was an XY GTHO Phase 3.

0.99% of people would think it was a genuine XY GTHO Phase 3.

0.01% of people would be absolutely enraged that the owner of this genuine XY GTHO Phase 3 in pink (1 of 17) with blue knobs (1 of 12) and orange throbatrons (1 of 6) has allowed the 4th nut of the left exhaust bank to be tightened to the the flat is horizontal not vertical as this did not happen in the factory until 11:27 AM on 5th of August ant this car was built at 9:23 on that day and would write scathing posts on every internet forum that has not yet banned them detailing the horror of this travesty.......

Always good to know what you are looking at.

Myself, I like to know if I am looking at a genuine car or not.

Or maybe they are someone who just wants to know more about Fords and GT's shame on them for not being as cool and all knowing as the kids with a real GT in the shed.

Numbers don't add up mate but I agree with what you're saying. As some are a bit over the top when it comes to it. But yeah there used to be a market, don't know maybe still going, with compliance plates. But I was just refering to the replicas not the illegal rebirth that are getting around.

Yes true but then when did adding up correctly, logic or sense have anything to do with being a car enthusiast

........... I would LOVE to get hold of an XY GT and make a stinking hot Falcon 500 replica.

I have a dislike for people who dislike replica's. Why is it anyone's business but the person who owns and loves it? There are heaps of cars I do not like but don't tell the owners ..... I just choose not to buy that car! Whether it is snobbery or what ... I don't know. The BEST think about a replica (as mentioned above) is you can go ballistic on it without the same people having a whinge because the car they do not own has been molested. I would just say, get over it. Not yours .... mine!

Real or faker ???
Id never ever be able to afford a genuine XY GT,even IF i had the money , or won the money ,spending that much on an over priced ornament sitting in a cocooned encasement in the shed , just wouldnt happen
Would i spend alot less on a faker , enjoy driving it , not scared that a rod might go thru a block in a matching numbered car, absolutely
Would i enjoy something more because it, looks the same, perhaps goes better, stops better, handles better, but doesnt have the important numbers , of course

Different strokes , and wallet depths for different folks

My favourite GT was the XT with the 302 in it.
A mate had one new. Candy Apple Red, lovely car and a great drive.
It died against a tree in Country WA.
These were not only fast (1968) but drove well.
I still like them and would own one in a heart beat Replica or not.

Not many guys out there have the stones to modify real GT's these days. I don't see what the big deal is about it really..
I changed mine around with some (reversible) upgrades an copped plenty of crap off the GT police, but to hell with em an anyone else who dont like it.

Its my car, it aint a HO or anything super rare or desierable, so why not..
Just wait till I change the colour on it...lol, then I will be classed as Satans son by them GT police...lol

At the other end of things..
I do appreciate and like to see correct looking cars, but row upon row of the same cars in diffrent colours does get a bit boaring after a time.
I also like to see some variety..
This is where I appreciate a nice and properly done GT replica or even a nice normal Falc or GS Falc thats been tastefully modified or is spot on looks wise.
Perioud and model specific colour changes are fine, trim changes or trim colour changes are good, normal dash to GS/GT is fine too.. Nice wheels etc etc..

If it's a GS, keep it a GS. These are worth preserving as well. (My immediate response, shot from the hip)

There's always going to be a market for fake GT's, as the Real Deal GT's are out of the price range of many people, so there will be pressure on common Falcons and Fairmonts to become the fakers. However, this means that many of the old shells will get a lot of TLC and continue to exist, which is a good thing.

What I do like to see is someone who goes outside the box and tries to recreate a stock, factory looking "What if?" and succeeds. Ie, an XW-Y GT with 2 door body, GT utes, vans, wagons etc.

My ultimate 'Fake GT' remains factory built, however: ZC 351 Fairlane, with XW GT running gear!

XY falcon 500 sitting in a Park, 50% of the people walking past ask if it is a genuine Phase3...

same 50% then tell you they owned a Phase 3 and it could smoke the tyres at 100kms per hour.

Yes they are , well genuine GTs worth a motsa, but where has the individuality gone ???
Days gone by when they were worth near nothin , they were butchered, modified, altered, hotted up more than most nowadays could fathom
Now its all about ,as mention , the exacting screw here, right amount of orange peel in the paint, exact dolop of body deadener here and there
These things , especially the P3 were built to drive and race, not stashed away, usually by someone who couldnt really understand the reason behind them, race car
They were about street presence, well at least when we actually seen them , not about the lack of man hood size
Yes we need to preserve to an extent our history or some of it
But i get more enjoyment seeing some bloke track racing his GT or P3 than seeing them pampered like a baby

I really don't think it's much to do with having the stones to modify a GT as to the economics of it. (I'm not talking a few cosmetic bolt ons).

If you like an XY with big motor, suspension, running rear, good wheels, and the colour you always wanted etc, etc..it would make no sense to start with a $100K+ genuine GT then spending $50K making it go, stop and go around corners and changing the colour.

Cheaper to buy a replica and go nuts

Or buy a rhino and have the best of both worlds genuine GT and go nuts...

lets face it

theres nothing wrong with replicas , they basically are a GT made out of factory (if done right) ,the only difference being the VIN number

I'd love to have a genuine XY GT and hopefully one day I will. My problem is I dont just want any old car. I could sell a well built replica and get straight into a an undesireable combo GT for the same money but would I be happy, no. Unfortunately my want list would be for a popular colour/trim combo, factory manual and fully restored back to better than new. With that, ive just added $80k - $100k to the price. One day the right car will come along but until then Im more than happy to drive a fully rebuilt better than new replica.

I also dont mind when I get asked if its an original or not, I answer truthfully so I dont look like a tool.

To elaborate...does the option of a GT replica hurt creativity? It seems to be every second XW-XY in Street Fords follows a formula of a flash colour, bone/chamois interior and billit rims...all within GT stripes etc...to me this is the horrid stuff. I'd prefer a to the bone GT replica, with all the details, like paint marks etc)...

Could this be why there is a lack of interesting highly thought out early falcons? Take a look a the Lebrese coupe, a totally unique take on the famous coupe...

There have been a few, like Owne Webbs and Craig Parkers (of street machine) XY's...and i recall an interesting airbagged XR ute...

Imagine a Ring Brothers attempt on a XY...big breaks, custom chassis with C4 corvette front suspention, twin turbo Miami motor etc...

I think its evident that to many people care what others think.

For me reps are great because its shows a passion for a brand, and following your dreams. Also I would think in general reps actually get out of the garage more often therefore more people get to see the style, presence, noise etc.

Id be paranoid as hell driving a genuine around as it should be driven.
