Yeah I'd imagine that there would have been something like you say, as free falling at nearly 1200 klms/hr is certainly moving.

The lower he got, the more dense the air would have become, so his terminal velocity when he popped his chute, would have dropped dramatically from his peak speed.

Would have loved to seen the view first hand when he was sitting about to jump off. Would have been incredible!

Awesome!! Also consider this: as he stood on his little platform before jumping, commercial airliners at their normal altitude were flying at a level nearly 29 kilometers BELOW where he was standing...

Well duh, so you push the boundaries with technology to make sure the journey down does not get toasty. The technology horizon is still too far off for this to occur at the moment.
