P.S I've been told that the Sucrogen E85 (orange drums) is bad for your cars because it clogs injectors due to the sugar in it? Not 100% sure on it but it's just what I've been told by a few guys who race in the LF Speed Event Series and are switching brands
not sugar, they use MTBE in it, stuffs some injectors

Its not about the saving its about all the extra power you can make with it.

you don't use twice as much, you use 30-40% only at WOT, i don't know how many people here drive WOT all the time driving revs it's more around 10-20%, know alot of people averaging around 15L/100km with 50/50 city freeway driving

We have it over here too. We tested it at 91 in the tube. Picked up just on 70hp with it on the same boost.. And its only 1.187 a litre. Im averaging around 17l/100km around town, a track day and a drag night over the last 130l. Plus it smells aweome both fresh and burnt. Just have fuel lines to go (intank done) and Ill be running it daily.

Yeah I was surprised when we averaged 15L/100km in my mates ED (Built DOHC motor and big turbo) running E85 going out to racewars, we wern't exactly taking it easy either

Don't think there will be too many people running this in their car 24/7. But for drags/track days, it'll be popular. For someone like me who drives it 1/3 weeks, I'll be using it for sure.

Its not about saving money, its about making more power and burning less fossil fuels as well as making fuel from a waste product.

Gee i thought they made it from sugar cane ,so the tractors that plant it dont use fossil fuel ,the tractors and trucks that harvest it dont use fossil fuel, like the harvest goes from now till december ,24 hrs a day 7 days a week and at the end of it they produce this wonderful clean fuel ,Now if you dont know ill inform you, all the tractors and trucks run on diesel and that a fossil fuel , they use heaps of it to produce this so called clean fuel ,so is it really so clean ,or have you city boys no idea how it is produced

horsepower wise maybe 3-5%, however, car will run cooler, smell better, bit more torque, better for the environment. the last one being the most crucial obviously

2000 - 5000 - 20,000 tractors vs 1 million - 3 million - 5 million cars that have the potential to run on E85.

Holden's VE is capable of running on E85 from factory, has 2 maps in the ECU with an octane sensor. So if it's cheaper then normal unleaded and your standard car runs on it, would you buy it.... How many VE commodores sold in the last few years.

Not having a go, Just providing an example.

I believe E85 is the way of the future when it come to alternative fuels, It doesn't have to many down sides a part from eating rubber and absorbing water over a period of time.

Cheers
Jay

If you done some research at all, you would understand that it is actually made from sorghum. And the left over gets turned into high quality feed for cattle. And its keeping many people in a job.
And for your info, I highly doubt the majority of people using e85 are doung so for the environment.
But for our sake, you mentioned all those dirty tractors and the such to produce tje e85. Can you run past me again how normal petrol is made, and how the generation of emmisions is so much better than producing e85.
Thanks.

I've ogt a tune for BP98 in my EL Fairmont Ghia, which has head work, cam and full exhaust done, can I just fill her up with E85 from Caltex?

Or do I need a retune?

Retune and possibly e85 compatible fuel components. (Lines etc...)

Funny boy ,since when is molasses a waste product ,it makes rum and good cattle ,why waste it on bloody ethanol when we have plenty of reserves of good old oil

will definitely need a retune and check the lines and fuel filters for compatibility as dingdong555 said. E85 needs about 30-40% more @ WOT. teflon braided is not needed as everyone says, we have run Speedflow 100-series hose for a few years no issues.

we have a Barry Grant Hot Rod pump to fill the surge, after a year this started leaking, a new seal was put in and it was fine. unsure it was the E85 that caused it, guys have been saying they had the same issue with just running 98-octane, the pump has been there 5-8 years or so before it leaked, so maybe just coincidence.

Regarding quality tests, again from Antilag:

Quote:
Here is my dodgy and fairly inaccurate tube test. Sitting around the 88-89% on this test... Interestingly the guys who do these test over east usually seem to get around 90-93% on the test tube and 82-85% on the Zeitronix. Makes sense then that both mine and Dave's test point to the same trend of around E80

Theres not a huge saving just better performance in all areas.

I have been following testing locally too and it is coming back at 80% at the moment.

Just need a few more bowsers so I can make it to the bowser and back home before a refill. Then a new tune
