Ive got front and rear dash cams in my FG GT and my EL XR6 and my partners BF XR6 and all get backed up weekly to my 2tb external hard drive. Thankfully never had to refer back to any footage but you never know when you may need to, currently have 10 weeks worth of driving and have only used 1/4 of the hard drive.
plus its always good to checkup on your mechanic to make sure they haven't sent the apprentice out, so he can do a lunch run or see how a gt goes in the back streets... Edit: Id only be sending in footage to the police if was something really bad, and if the footage was all they would need for a conviction. |

My cam only records last 20 min drive, enough to save my **** in case of a "not at fault accident" the rest gets all deleted, unless is a real crime!
There are plenty of idiots on the road & responding to them means you are joining the wrong team. the ACA thing was truckies that decided to name & shame dumb driver on the road .... pretty stupid considering what some truckies will do on the road. don't bother just delet it |

No there was no provocation, but the guy was probably having a bad day and was driving accordingly.
And I don't intend to post any footage or share it unless there was an accident in which case my insurance company would be the only people to see it. As I said the reason for these dash cams is for serious things like accidents. If you kept footage of people on the road doing silly things you'd run out of hard drive space! Things like this happen to all of us and you've usually forgotten about it before too long. |

I've seen people in cars cut in front of trucks that are coming to a stop at a red light, these cars are eating into the truck's required braking distance. I've never had a problem with trucks it's usually average Joe in a car commuting to and from work that does the silliest things. I just got back from Melbourne and the Truck drivers were fine. PS: Footage deleted! Last edited by muso; 05-08-2013 at 06:34 PM. |

I would usually record every single drive I go on but I'm at the point now where I am getting kinda bored with it. I see stupid stuff every time I go out on the road. If some knob smashes in to me I'm sure the police can figure out who's in the wrong. I'll admit I'm no church going angel. 95% of the time I'm patient, courteous, drive within my limits and that of the law but I do make honest mistakes if distracted or simply thinking of other thing's when obviously I should be focused on driving. Then there's times I get so frustrated with other non thinking drivers I want to rear end them in to a guard rail! Today was no exception. I went looking for trailer tail lights (a simple procedure you'd think?), the first hardware store in ulvy didn't have what I wanted so I drove to Devonport. Super cheap auto gave me a snotty response from a "busy" staff member when I asked for help (no 5 core wire on the shelf!). So I went to home timber & hardware...no tail lights at all.. Went to K-mart & again no tail lights at all.. Went to an engineering shop next , they had cheap lights but only 1 in stock ! (FRUSTRATION RISING) So then I went to NUBCO...glad I did too, had what I wanted & at the right price & great service (even got a freebie 'cause the rep' saw I was irate) What a champion (FEELING BETTER). Now to drive home...in the rain, from Devonport to ulverstone. I'm doing 100-110 (110 zone) in the right lane & in the 10 minutes I was on the highway 5 drivers jumped out into the right lane as I approached & each time I had to slow down to accommodate them. The last one I could have murdered. As I approached within metres of this car, the driver switched to the right lane & slowed me to about 80, I horned & flashed in disgust. I then followed the car into the left lane 'cause my exit was 300 metres away. The A'hole then slowed to a crawl, about 50kp/h, must have thought I was trailing them...whatever! I mention my day today to demonstrate that sometimes we have a bad day & could easily step over that line & smack a few faces while not being in our usual tolerant mood! WHY DO PEOPLE HATE BEING OVERTAKEN, I have wide wet's on my rims & I'm quite comfortable doing the speed limit in the wet, but why is it, on a dual carriageway, as I approach a few cars that are in the left lane, at least one of them has to pull out in front of me...why Why WHY? ------------------------------Example: http://youtu.be/U36B7wfF9SM

I've also heard of drivers using the brake pedal as a left foot rest which keeps the brake light on wondering why people are angry with them. Then you have the non indicators at roundabouts who don't realise the annoyance it causes. But I must admit the right lane hogs are annoying when traffic flow is disrupted by them. |

.
Also, if you witness something really bad and do decide to hand footage over to the police who use it to prosecute someone one, FFS, keep it to yourself. Don’t tell anyone. Good point! |

Back on topic, keep the camera rolling dude. You may be glad you did one of these days. As for the "bad driver' thing, they're everywhere so unless you see something really youtube worthy then just delete it & move on with your life.

At the end of the day the guy was driving like a ****tard and going out of his way to provoke me, so to all the neg comments, I didn't respond to his baiting.
Didn't tailgate, flash, beep or Bird and before someone says "but you posted it on a forum" I have kept his identity from this forum and as mentioned deleted the footage and have no intention of posting it on Youtube. Some comments seem to defend/overlook his bad driving, swapping lanes at a red light only to take off slower than the traffic is being a provocative retard as is deliberate obstruction of the passing lane which is illegal as well as moronic, even if provoked (which it wasn't) would still not make it ok! I understand where most of the comments are coming from though but don't necessarily agree with all of them - but that's what forums are about. I also agree with some concern that people want to become a self appointed "big brother" on the road because of their Dash Cams making them feel they all of a sudden have some statutory power, what people need to realise (me included) is that the guy behind you also probably has one filming you! I was angry at the time when I posted this thread but that's life. I just wanted to to put out there for discussion, cheers everyone for their input, drive safe Muso |

It's funny after a while you just forget about it, the novelty of having a dash cam wears off, I don't really think about it any more, I forget it's even there now. But one day it may be useful if there is an accident!

What I find interesting is the change in how people drive when they know a camera is fitted to the vehicle they are driving.
People seem to forget that the whole point of an in car camera is to prove your own innocence not to convict others. I doubt that the OP would have gotten into a road duel with the lane switching van had a camera been installed in his car. |
