I hope no one thinks I am bringing up to these issues to scare people away from buying a ranger. If I was going buy a ute the ranger would still be on top of the list. I put this information here so people could be aware of possible problems.
All new cars have there problems and trouble is dealers like to squash any negative information. I am currently waiting for delivery of a new Jeep GC and the software problems they have with the Uconnet 8.4 (radio/aircon/navigation etc) are unbelievable, but I know of these issues due the jeep forums. With this information I can ensure I get the best outcome when I take delivery. Warren

Awesome car , just bought extra cab xlt. Has cooler , power sockets in tray , auto mirror,wipers etc only down sides is crazy big turned circle ...worst manual shifter in automotive history, and needs aftermarket suspension the stock one is a bit skatey on rough roads ...but with those problems is is a brilliant performer , tows like a train and very friendly cab /seating/ duel climate/Bluetooth /cruise on wheel ..
Hint measure your garage it's a big sucker ..

i have one. love it, after 6 hiluxs. only issue is turbo lag. sux plums.
but other than that thumbs up oh yeah and the second service is 600 bucks that sux plums too.

I think it's just "different". Most people are used to slushing 4x4's in gear. Like a sausage in a hallway. Ranger is quite the opposite. Would you all rather 1/2m throw between gears & being able to swish the stick around in gear?
It will get 'smoother' though. But it'll always be tight.

Coming from a performance sedan background I found the shift frustrating initially. Notchy esp in the 1st to 2nd shift and sometimes I'd get 5th expecting 3rd
Some of that is related to my habit of shifting like my life depends on it, just habit. But I can say I still shift like I'm heading down the qtr and have. I such issues these days never miss a gear always find what I'm after. One positive also is I don't have any lag to complain of. One negative is it can be difficult to drive smoothly when you're lazing along, give it 2k+ and it'd smooth as a babies bum but I'm a early shifter.

But it'll alwaIs be tight.[/QUOTE] After owning numerous 4 wheel drives , i feel no substance in that ...all may have long throws but the rubber like spring shifts ordinary at best .and being on a mi. ne site there ain't many manual 4x4 I haven't driven , hey it's not unbearable but it is poor .the notchy side of it is fine .i honestly don't care much but it is fairly obvious and the first thing you notice .the ones at work are worse cause they get driven like race cars .stop defending a poor shift it's crap . Awesome car minor issue .

Off topic a little , most long time manual sedan drivers complain about the shift on 4x4 vehicles , they are just a truck box for load carrying its not a race car . My Td5 Landy from new was terrible , some research on UK forums led me to a different gearbox lubricant, and adding some Nulon G70 Teflon additive as well made a world of difference to how it shifts . I'm not suggesting this is the answer to the poor shift in the Ranger but in time there may be some alternatives to be looked at .

Wildtrak has rear camera, sat nav, leather trim, roof rails, tub cover and 18 inch wheels plus some minor cosmetic changes over XLT.

Picked up the XLT Friday. A little firmer in the ride than I remember with the test drive, but still quite good. The tester was a manual which I found quite good with the shift, ours is the auto .. very good on the shift. Didn't go all out with extras .. will get more as time goes on and we see what we need. Only had a hard cover, tints and rust proofing for a start.
