What year it is? 2006
What Variant/badge? Zetec What series? LS What transmission? 5 manual km's 460,000 Freeway commute hack. Dealer serviced per schedule. No "major" issues to 370,000, other than blowing headlight globes. Then: new rims (originals wouldn't balance any more). New altenator and starter. Then donated to a young relative. Nil servicing. Developed piston slap c.450k. Engine seized @460k. Dumped in back yard, pending review. Big storm. Tree fell on it. ... Car now officially deceased. -------------- What year it is? 2008 What Variant/badge? TDCi What series? LT What transmission? 6 manual km's 180,000 Purchased 2nd hand @140,000. 1st 12 months: Replaced 1 leaking injector. Full size 17" spare (and 3 more in the shed) Interior trim has received some minor "Zetec" upgrades. (See wot I did there) |

What year it is? 2011 What Variant/badge? Diesel Trend Sedan What series? LW What transmission? Auto and of course, how many km's did it run? ~45k Between my last post: for maintenance I've replaced the battery (was still on original), replaced front brake pads, replaced front wipers, oil and filter change. Couldn't be happier. |

Sold mine Feb 1 at 278000. Best car ever owned but the road noise and harsh ride was getting to me and at 278000 felt I was maybe pushing my luck. Traded it for a 1000$ on a 2015 LZ. Saw it on Car sales a few weeks later at $3999. |

What Variant/badge? TDCi What series? LT What transmission? Manual 6 speed. and of course, how many km's did it run? ~287600 Runs great - driven every day. The only up coming maintenance is that it's about to get some new front LCA bushes and a LH front driveshaft (only because of a torn inner CV joint boot) replaced on Friday this week. Still running same brake rotors and pads I put in at 109,000 km (yes, amazing but true) when I bought it second hand in 2011.... Love this car as it's still averaging ~5.3 l/100 km as the long term fuel consumption average over the last 178,000 kms and it still handles and rides great. It get's serviced every 10,000 kms (or close enough) and has had two timing belts changed to schedule. Just fitted my third set of Yokohama AE-50 tyres all round, too. |

I have some questions though: 1) Do you know if it is still on it's original Dual Mass Flywheel and Clutches? I heard it is a common issue with mt with dmf, they require more maintenance. 2) On what kms did you change the 2x timing belts? Aside from the timing chain (also has one) that is due at 240,000 p.s I'm looking at buying meself a six year old diesel soon. |

perhaps having it serviced at 10,000 rather than the factory interval of 15,000 may prolong life?

For your questions: 1) I needed to have the clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced approximately 6 months after I purchased it....unfortunately, it was quite an expensive exercise as all the hardware including a new DMF, clutch pressure and friction plate and all the hydraulics (within the bellhousing) and throw out bearing was needed at the time. That work was done at 122,800 kms (~about $2500 job at the local Ford dealer at the time). However, with me driving it since then, it has now lasted > 163,000 kms, exceeding the original clutch / DMF life, to date. No special "maintenance" is required with these (they're not adjustable or anything) but I guess it depends on driving habits more than anything. 2) While I have owned it, the first full timing belt / chain was replaced at the 180K service (and I think it was supposed to be changed at 120K according to the maintenance schedule) and the second one was done at the 240K service (at that time we also did the front crank seal as it was just starting to weep in to the timing area and coating the belt, etc). I would certainly recommend these LT/LV diesel Focus cars - in fact, I am lamenting that this combination of TDCi / manual transmission is not available in a Focus after the LV model. The only really niggling issues I seem to have are that this series of Focus always seems to blow light globes randomly (headlight, tailight, parkers, etc although never changed a front indicator globe - go figure!) but that is not an engine specific issue, per se. Sorry about the long post but I would certainly encourage anyone to buy one....just make sure it's been correctly maintained and observe carefully how the person selling the car demonstrates how they drive it and how they've used the car....it can tell you a lot. My car was owned by an AFP officer who commuted from Dromana to Melbourne everyday so it got a nice long warm up and drive cycle rather than short trips. I drive it minimum 100 kms per day; heaps more on weekends. Last edited by Pista_510; 05-07-2017 at 10:09 PM. Reason: Service interval for timing system. |

As with all the cars I've owned, I also always follow the handbook recommended maintenance (ie. coolant flush and change, brake system flush, etc) intervals, too. |

If I remember correctly, the car started vibrating really badly as I pulled up to the lights at an intersection. I pushed in the clutch pedal and on re-engagement there was a terrible shuddering noise and vibrations and the pedal basically lost it's "spring back"....the car moved but it shook terribly..I was literally 200 metres from a Ford dealership and basically limped the car there (they were closed at the time) and left it there. The next day they diagnosed the DMF failure (it was the springs in the flywheel had collapsed) and then I had to get the whole assembly replaced.

2006-LS ,(wifes car) has done 154 000 kms, had the Alernator and battery go, and the drivers door handle cable snap.
Mechanically the car has been very reliable and is a good run about, and one of those cars that i still find is enjoyable to drive and has a fun driving feel about it. Main drawback would be it is the Nvh levels are average, motor and road noise are intrusive. 2016 LZ sport(wifes new car)8500km, So far so good- Good looker with lots of tech. |
