I'll use any excuse possible to get another car.
When my wife told me she was pregnant with our first child I went out and bought an LS1 Berlina wagon within 2 weeks of being told.
I modified the engine, exhaust, brakes and suspension along with new wheels and tyres and then ended up selling it and buying something else before my son had even been born.

Have had my ZD 24 years. Recently bought a new car which is nice in every way but I would sell it, trade it, bury it long before I would even consider parting with my ZD...

I am in the same boat with the BA XR6T Mk1
Head says get rid of it.
It has leaks oil and coolant and still has the original diff bushes which need fixing. Paint is not the best as it has been outside all its life. CD not working ect ect. No connectivity with smart phones like with new cars.
Cost to fix versus what it is worth, Head says upgrade, upgrade.
Heart says Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! !!!!

Combination of boredom, tax write-off and high mileage since I run a private owned car for work where I average 900km/week in awful Sydney traffic. I'd say a large factor in whether you're able to move on to another car is correlated to how much time you spend in it. If you're grinding 4-5 hours a day in Sydney traffic, a change is sometimes as good as a holiday.

I have zero issues moving on from one car to the next. There are characteristics that I'd wish my current car had that my previous car did and I tend to make large changes to keep things interesting.

For instance, last 3 car purchases. F6 -> Evo X -> FGX XR8. I was quite concerned that the difference between the F6 and XR8 is too close of a car, I guess time will tell.

My first cars were all cars I got from family members. My FG is the first car I chose.

I had my previous car written off, so while I waited for the insurance money I shopped around a LOT. Some of the car yard guys knew who I was before I ever got the money.

The FG is not what I was looking for, but it was the first car to put a smile on my face when I drove it, and I think that's important.

In the end I would probably have gotten something nicer again if I had wanted to get a loan to supplement the payout, or if I just earned a lot more than I do.

Is it a keeper? Well, I do plan on driving it into the ground before getting a new one, and it has set the bar so far and I've probably realised there's things I want in a car that I had never thought about.

I know that when it comes time for shopping head is definitely a big part of it, but until there's a grin on my face when I am behind the wheel, it's not the car for me.

I am always attached in some way to my cars but i have only regretted selling one car in my life and that was my VY Clubsport.

I love the FG XR6T and all the other cars i have had but to me the clubby had something about it that will never be replaced, it had soul.

I sold it to a young guy and hoped to never see it again, just last year on the way to the coast i saw it wrapped around a pole, totally written off. I never wanted to sell it to the kid but when i saw that i really questioned myself if i should have...........

When I get an idea to want to buy something (car, electronics etc.) the idea doesn't get out of my head until I make the purchase. The desire to buy focuses more on my wants rather than my needs.
