My mate's dad had an orange HQ El Camino 308 auto. I loved it almost as much as the XY Ranchero 302 that another mate's dad owned. The HQ one tonner was called the El Torro. The six cylinder HQs had a 250 CID Chev engine with a decent auto rather than the weak as 202 and "traumatic".

Yes the gutless 250 Chev and T 350 auto what a slug.

Nothing wrong with the good old Trimatic or the strong 202.

I think that the HQ ute called Bakkie was a 1 tonne body just with a 3rd rate ugly back made up and fitted to it.
That would make it not a true ute but just like the Falcon type ute we have. hell I just can't think of the true name they are truly called now.

It's truly called a, Pick up I believe hear in Aus.
Holden makes a Commodore ute.
Ford makes a Falcon Pick up.
The last Falcon ute was the XH.

SA do have our HQ type ute that SA call a Bakkie but I have seen a SA HQ Pick up with a shocking looking rear that looks like a Pick up style years ago.

i'll tell you why, from the chevrolet website:

The Chevrolet Utility bakkie showcases the unmistakably strong, bold and global new Chevrolet face.

I don't know why big car companies think they need a 'corporate face' on their cars, but it fugs up the design of every car that has it forced on it.

eg: Chrysler put the Lancer's round face on a square Magna body...

These would sell locally-If it was reliable. Looks very similar to the GM no star rated south american vehicle.

Loads of holden combo vans with cooked engines and rusted bodywork driven into the ground in these parts.

proton jumbuck has been popular with good resale. difficult to find one for sale. I wanted to buy one with a lancer diesel engine conversion.

Holden should bring the Ute Force here. Slap some HSV Stickers on it to make go fast. And sell to the younger generation (18 year olds). Just like they did back in early 80's with the SS Gemini's.

Hello,

Are you sure it was SS ? They did sell some ZZ's, but they only had stripes. The Japanese ZZ were some serious Cars, 1800 DOHC all Disc brakes and EFI. This was the early 80's when the local GM stuff had pushrods and drums in the back.

You're right, they did, but it doesn't compare to the Force in the fugly looks department (which has been the prime content of discussion on this thread).

Hello,

At that end of the market looks dont matter. I read through the Add, and they have made a number of errors. It implies wheels are optional, and there are 3 Tow bars available. 1 of them fits the back window sort of. And 2 different canopies, although one is for executives. I dont see many wanting to change job for a company Car like that. Still, cheap and frugal on fuel would be fine if they are reliable and last.
