Mustang was always going to sell like hotcakes initially and die off.
Ford's mistake, despite huge clues like presales deposits, was under supplying the cars in the first year. If they had stuck to the initial pricing and had cars available they could have moved 30,000 in that first year or so. The problem with cars like the mustang is they then become yesterday's car when a new shiny thing comes along. If they do a major and worthwhile update then the buzz is up again, although it will never be like it was. Australia is now in recession mode. Regardless of the official numbers most people believe there is one coming so discretionary spending has collapsed. Everywhere I go there are empty shops along the road. Our local baker shut up a few weeks back after decades in the area. Mustangs are toys not tools and that type of purchase falls most in this climate. I'm thinking when I finally have to ditch the EL I'll look for a 4cyl convertible stang to replace it. Cheaper rego and a bit of fun. 2c |

Hell, if they can't even get their biggest seller an all new version, when pretty much everyone of it's rivals is getting one within a year or 2, then they are screwed. |

Being at the top of the list with declining sales figures was just a sign of things to come. . |

As plenty have said, this was always going to happen.
Huge pent up demand for an iconic car we've only ever had as low-volume conversions, especially with the demise of the local performance offering. It was never going to sell like a "mature" product. And even after demand was satisfied, there weren't many 2nd hand ones available. Plus you need to factor in those in the "must have the latest desirable toy" brigade. For a while that was the Mustang, but they have now moved on to something else, not only lowering new sales in their own right, but providing 2nd-hand stock.

Drove through my local ford dealer after picking up parts. Many secondhand mustang in the lot. Easy to own a mustang these days
