bought my DJ safety 5 point for $220 which comes with vee type shoulder strap that allows single mounting point on parcel shelf.

note that when you fit a harness you must reinforce both sides of floor etc with 3mm steel plates 75mm x 75mm

These are rules that should have been inforced for many years back, there along the same lines as ANDRA regulations.... may have something to do with the chat going on about Calder and ANDRA getting back together for discussions.
Anyway i can see Heathcote becoming very busy...

Heathcote won't become busy due to the rule changes. Calders a better choice for those who don't want to drive hundreds of k's to run a 1/4 mile.

Don't forget, if you plan on using your car at a CAMS event such as a club sprint day or track day, then your harness must be a different colour to your interior. EG black/dark grey interior; you cannot have a black/grey harness, Blue, yellow, red would be better.

I think they also need to be a different colour to your body panels.

Maybe harder for you, as you are in Cranbourne there are many that travel there on Sundays for a run.... as they couldn't be bothered on a Friday after work, also on a Sunday you can have 25 plus runs.
There are already many 8, 9, 10 sec cars running there on Sundays and there will be many more.
if you want to sort a car out for racing its the place to do it.

Well worth it Dan, all the quick cars should have one for there own safety.
in-fact probably be a good idea if most regular racers got one.

I saw some "rediculously" cheap prices on a flier last week from Syney speed supplies. I thought it was 15 bucks or something.

Thats a pain. I've run 113MPH which means I wont be able to run again without a 4 point harness. I cant see myself going to that trouble unless they are easy to remove and refit pretty easily.

You can have non-matching wheels BUT the tyre rules are in place for a reason ie slicks on the back means no radials on the front (vice versa for a FWD)

The way I see it, if you don't like the rules then don't race... Safety regs are put in place to save your life and 100% of ALL drag racing associations across the world have the same safety requirements

does this mean a normal seatbelt?

what if you have a 14 second car and want to run at caulder now? does this mean you must install a harness?

Yes, 3 point lap sash is a seat belt.

i ran 11.2 last nite and no one said anything about a harness, i was just advised about the rollcage if expect it to go quicker

You run a 10 yes you will need a cage.... we went up to 123mph last night, I have a harness.... need to pull my finger out and fit it.
Got a approved one off ebay for $100, only needs to be approved if using it for the street.

Everyone in SA is hoping AIR will open soon, but at the Gazzanats a couple of weeks ago the commentators didnt say anything about the drags returning which I thought strange with all the other talk that is around

Let's clarify a few points here before we get too far off track.

3 Point Harness

A good, old fashioned, lap-sash seat belt is a 3 point harness and is perfectly acceptable for those cars running slower than 11.99 or 110 mph.

4 Point Harness

For the bulk of the rest running between 110 and 130 mph will require a 4 point harness. Bear in mind that most States require that these are NOT used for street driving where there are rear passenger seats (for obvious reasons) and thus the standard seat belts must be retained for street use.

The easiest mount is a four point harness with a "Y" mount as shown in Diagram 1 below. It can be mounted to the seat belt anchorage at a single point which complies with CAMs requirements. An "H" style harness can also be used (Diagram 2) and this is also allowed to be mounted at 3 points only and can thus be mounted the same way. Ideally the H type should be mounted at 4 points but this is often impractical in a road going car.

Note: Longer bolts of the same standard should be used for the mounts that are used on the standard seat belt points (to the left and right rear of the seat) to ensure that there is no loss of integrity in the mount point.

Tail Shaft Loops

These are a good idea for all vehicles competing - they are inexpensive and easy to fit.

Overflow Bottles

Unless you are fortunate enough to have a fully sealed system (like the Chrysler) then this is a must have. For occasional use the plastic coke bottle as a catchment for the overflow tube is fine but for more frequent use consideration should be given to either fitting a permanent container or routing the overflow back to the overflow bottle.

It's all about having fun in a safe and controlled manner.

Hmmmm... The only 2 things that would affect me are the tailshaft loop, and a 4 point harness. While I have no issue fitting a loop, I'll be buggered if if I'm gonna fit a 4 point harness. I like the intrerior the way it is, not clustered with unsightly harnesses. Calder has just become a spectator venue for me. Pity, I wanted see what I could do there, having only run at Heathcote once. I do see the their reasoning, and in light of the recent tragic events in Australian Motorsport, think they have made a responsible decision.

You'd only have the harness "in view" whilst running.... so for normal everyday driving you wouldn't have it there, therefore you wouldn't have a "clustered" view........ it's very very easy to fit ...........
