Kubrick is a true genius. I've got to agree with most of Flappist's choices.

Kill Bill was a complete load of rubbish. I dare say if Tarantino didn't have his name on it no one would of cared. Jackie Brown is a much better movie and I bet about 20 people on here have seen it.

Hell, most of the anime I've seen is far more complex than most of the garbage spewed out on mainstream TV.

Also the black and white bit in Kill Bill was done that way cause of so much blood. Otherwise it would never have been released

I have both the domestic (b/w) and Japanese (colour) DVDs and the asian one is not only all colour but a slightly different movie. Killbill 1 is Tarantino's homage to Hentai Manga (japanese comics) and Killbill 2 is a spagetti western. They are over the top in the same way as Batman, X-men, Arion Flux etc are. Pulp fiction was one of the early attempts at muti-threading relational plot methodology and used the cheap soft cover pulp crime novels (hence the name) as the basis for its content. The methodology has become very popular in many genres with examples like Go and Love Actually. Tarantino is a genius at extracting a reaction from his audience and his movies have many levels with lots of irony and dry humour to appeal to most people. e.g. Revenge is a dish best served cold "Old Klingon proverb" Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids.... Hatori Hanzo is the main character in the favorite movie (Street Fighter) of Christian Slater's character Clarance Whorley in the first movie Tarantino wrote, True Romance (The part is actually play by the same actor, Sonny Chiba).... N.B. I am a bit of a Tarantino enthusiest..... |

i was forced to watch it at the cinema's for a film class i was taking at uni. at first i thought "what the hell is this crap" but by half way i was so engrossed in the movie, that the setting etc kind of became invisible (so to speak) and it allowed you to get more involved in the characters. and then the ending just blew me away. definately a must see movie for film buffs though
