How long has it taken you (or is taking you)?

One took 3 weeks!

I use bethanrum (I can't remember the proper name) but something has to be better. I want to work out what before I get my next.
I have the next two already picked!

is that the unicorn and butterfly for your ankle LTDHO? :hihi:

I am about to get my right arm done, a full sleeve job.
It has taken me about a year with working with my tattooist mate who has designed me a ripper piece of art.

The only thing i am worried about now is the healing process, since it will be a full sleeve job, it will probably take 5 sessions, so say.. a month or 2 to be finished, and it will be an "open" kind of wound, which will be open to infection etc etc.

I know that bepanthan is a good aid in speeding up the process, but there must be something better!

Close Rob, I'll have a butterfly on one ankle and a rose on the other.

I washed mine with lavender soap (even though I was told that isn't a good idea - it has worked fine for me)....and I washed it every few hours... only put the bepanthan (sp?) morning and night...
There is a product designed for tats (sold at most tat shops now) that also has sunscreen in it.. which is apparently really good, a friend used it and no dramas (actually healed quicker than I did)

If its what im thinking then go to the milkbar and buy the kiddy ones, and as a bonus you get a free stick of bubblegum! :

Ive had about 30 hrs of work on my right arm (tribal custom freehand which i designed myself) and 4 hours on my left arm.
All work done at Living canvas tattoo, 2/24 bridge st in eltham.

Speak to Big Ross, he is an artist, especially when it comes to freehand stuff and they are very clean and professional.

Having the job done but with no ink in the gun. So that you can work out whether or not you can handle the pain without getting halfway through the job and walking away with half a tattoo.

Well i'm goin in tomorow to Body Language. I've heard both great, and not so great stories about them.. I'm gonna let dad go first with the actual tat, and if I like what I see (both in the tat, and hygiene) then i'll get mine.

This is what i'm getting on the wrist:

hey mate you get tattoos for yourself not for others so really it doesnt matter what others think of it or if they know what it is. remember its you that has to live with it for the rest of your life not them.

A bass cleff (spelling?) eh... nice.

IMO the best tattooists in Victoria are (in no particular order)
Dynamic Tattoo, Swan Street Richmond www.dynamictattoo.com
Living Canvas Eltham, www.australiabigbook.com/1909/4.html
Tattoo Magic, gertrude street collingwood www.tattoomagic.com.au
and Tattoo Connection in Wantirna www.tattooconnection.com.au

Dynamic used to be in boronia and Trevor Mcstay is the blokes name, have a peek at the gallery and you'll see what I mean.

popinfresh, as agony said you are getting the tattoo for yourself not for others.
So who cares what others think.. if it is what you really want then go for it....
People think it's strange that a girl has the ford blue oval etc on my arm.. but I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks, it was what I wanted...

Hope your dads one goes well

Stay away from the one in Lilydale! Butchers.....
Had mine done in Bayswater some 12 years ago. Can't remember the name of the place now but it was opp. the train station and was done by a guy named Gary i think. Don't think they're there anymore which doesn't help.

My other half had his done by the mob in Croydon on the corner of Maroondah Hwy & Dorset Rd, i think they're called Body Ink. They do a really good job. Also had my belly button pierced by them. :hihi:

Have mine on the side of my but cheek, pain wasn't too bad, did go a little queezy though, had a glass of water and was fine for the rest.

Have the boniest part of your body doesn't exactly tickle just like the soles of your feet!! :

Looks like 'The Wife' stole my thunder..., but it's PRO INK hun...
As another user posted earlier.

Go and see Adam or Steve.
Top blokes. Excellent work. Good prices (not cheap, but you get what you pay for with anything), and the place is cleaner than a hospital.

That reminds me, got to get some more "work" done...

Well, got it done by Dave. He was a nice bloke, the place was clean and he answered the phone once during my session, covered it in glad wrap and then changed gloves. Did a good job, I think if I wasn't allready booked in etc I woulda have bothered to go to somewhere like purple haze, but i'm happy with the results anyway.

It sure didn't tickle over the bone/veins that's for sure... A tipe though, eat breaky before you go in for a morning session =P Felt a bit light headed after I started watching it for a while.

Thanks heaps for the suggestions on places though, as i'll be checking these places out for when I get more detailed/extravagent designs at later dates.
Who do you think is the best black and white artist out of all these places? Is there any real stand out guys?

Here's a pic or two off my phone by the way..

As I said, i'm happy =) Kinda eager to get another one now, heh. Spose I better wait a while though..

Looks good popinfresh (I didn't realise you were booked in, I thought you said your dad was??)

Well thats good that you felt comfortable with them, that is the main point.

You are a lot braver than me though, I wouldn't get it on the wrist, must be a bit of a sook after all :
Told you it was addictive
Well done......

Well he booked in, then said is it cool if my son comes down too.

Plus he was paying, so yeah =P

It did hurt a bit, but it's not that big, so didn't have to put up with it for too long.

Ooer, ankle would hurt i'd imagine.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask.. What do you guys put on them afterwards? They told me to take the gladwrap off after an hour or so.. then warm soapy water it, then use this cream that starts with a B.. can't remember it though, lol.

Should I use anything other than the cream? Or is there something that works a lot better?

Cheers.

The tat looks good, popinfresh. Well done.

Bepanthen is the cream they would have refered you to. You got it done at Body Language, right? They sell Bepanthen there, under the counter facing towards the front window.

As for the lightheadedness, I had a lot of people warn me about that, so I had a bacon and egg sandwich from the shop around the corner from Purple Haze before I went in. Watched Matt do his work for three hours, never felt lightheaded at all. Would definately suggest having a feed before anyone goes in for some work.
