Their still going. I kind of tuned out after the black album. In a fit of stupidity I picked up the S&M album. I keep it to remind me how bad a bad album can be. Master of pupperts was there peak in my book.

sounding the same has worked for both Acca Dacca AND Slayer.

Slayer's new album is like 4 or 7 (top 10 anyway) on the Australian ARIA charts. so go figure. :sm_headba

"Hunger" was done by a Christian metal band called Eternal Decision. Their early songs were good, until they started doing their religious stuff.
A few other bands who sound a lot like Metallica, including sounding like Hetfield's singing too, are
Am I Blood
Jesters Funeral
...and of course Beatallica.
You can find MP3s around on the Net.

Lame and not happy.

I'd listen to everything up to and including the black album.

If a band was true to their music, they wouldn't change their style to suit the market.

Thats exaclty why AC/DC were the 3rd highest Australian entertainment money earner in 2005. Nothing changed, it all stays the same. They made $20 million without a new album and no tour. It would SUCK if they changed their style....( I think they are about the only band that would not change )

I had a listen to the new songs from Metallica, , and while one of them is not great, the other is good. I cant understand why people want Metallica to quit ? ? ? They still ROCK and make good music.

If Metallica gives it up, then bands like AC/DC, Rolling Stones, etc should also give up touring and selling albums and concert tickets.

Then we are left with Lee Harding, Aust Idol CRA-POLA and our "rock" coming from Shannon Noll ! ! !

That's the thing. They haven't changed to suite the market. If they did what the market wanted, which is to sound the same as the first 3 or 4 albums then that is following the market.

Anyway, looks like some will love it others will not. We are all entitled to an opinion on the topic.

*edit - LOL at AC/DC! :

Cmon - Metallica do not need to follow any market. They don't need money, they should be playing out of love for music and pushing the boundries of creativity. Nothing i have heard from any of their recent work has even remotely come close to that.

Just like performance car enthusiasts, we are not the broader market. Traditional Metallica fans are not the broader market, so if Metallica have changed their style to purposefully chase a bigger market and change their music to suit, then they have abandoned their fans that ultimately elevated Metallica to the iconic metal group that they were.

That's my opinion anyway.

As has been said i prefer there older stuff but it wasn't that bad in my view, St Anger was a big let down im hoping their new album will be a return to form.

I'm waiting for their next album to come out, should be good.
The only problem with Trivium is that the idolise and base themselves on other bands, does that mean in turn they may become like Metallica? SO far I've found their music quite good, give them 20 years and see how they are then.

I strongly recommend that you all watch and listen to their DVD's, they mention that they always endeavor to achieve a new sound on every album.
Only Metallica can get away with that and excel.
This means at least one more concert to go to.

Just got a decent MP3 download of their new song.

Its certainly miles better then stanga,
good intro,
good use of bass, but
The song is far to long,
The guitar solo works for the first 15 seconds
The lyrics sound crap and there is to much of them

Ah, I saw metallica in Melb, festival in '89. Back when I used to like them. Still like their old stuff 81-90ish but black and onwards gave me a fair disliking of them.

I have cliff burton tattooed on me, he is an idol of mine. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...t/MVC-042F.jpg

I'm a huge fan of their earlier stuff, especially the Black album thats my fave,
I have to say I was disappointed when I heard the St Anger album. It has a kind of aluminium sound... kinda a tinny sound and lacked grunt.
And now this song... very unsure of it. I'd probably like it if NOFX or someone else was singing it...just not Metallica! It doesnt suit them!

.... And Justice For All was the last decent album they did (and my fav). After that they sold out, went commercial and got greedy IMO

But... the post wasn't even entirely on-topic. It's fair to say that it's adding nothing to the thread, and most relevant opinions, (I'm guessing) had been aired in said thread. He's perfectly right to call you on bringing up this thread.

Yeh whatever dude......I would argue that album sales do not define whether a band sold out or not.......

So hows their new album sound? :
