I remember programming tic-tac-toe (naughts and crosses) in BASIC on the old Z80. The adrenalin can't be good for the heart :yeees:

My parents borrowed a C64 for a few months when I was a tacker, then we got our own Apple 2E with twin floppy drives and a COLOUR monitor!!! After many faithful years we moved to an almighty 486 DX-33. I still bust out the old Apple emulator every now and then and fire up a good game of Aztec, Conan, Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, or Moon Patrol! Yeah baby!

On my first ever "computer" was a Dick Smith VZ 200 back in 1984 or so. I had 8 KB of ram and we paid a fortune for it. Eventually we upgraded another 16kb extension so that we could play games ffs. It plugged into the tv. I mainly programmed it to play music cos that's all it could do until I got the extension. Then we could play games like Pong, Snake, Space Invaders and Froggy :sm_headba My folks bought it cos I was at high school and they thought I could use it for my homework... but it couldn't really be used for that :hihi: so it was our games machine. Here's a pic of it... http://www.evil-geek.com/node/91

Heres mine. Mum and Dad bought it for me for Christmas in the 80's. I don't know much about it, but I do know that all games came on tape and eventually when i got a floppy drive, it was more trouble than its worth. I sold it to my mate in the late 80's. And he still has it. I saw it 2 years ago. Might get it back off him.

My First one was an Amstrad 3086 running a Intel 8086 CPU @ 8Mhz, 640KB RAM, VGA Graphics, 3.5" 720KB FDD and 5.25" 3.60KB FDD, 32MB HDD, running DOS v3.3.. Parents bought it in 89 or 90 cost around $3k, but was using it until i got my 2nd PC in '96 though
2nd PC was a Pentuim 120, 16MB RAM, 1.3GB HDD, 8x CDROM, 15" Monitor with Win 95 ! Was upgraded over a few years and ended up being a Celeron 433, 64MB RAM, 20GB HDD + 2.2GB HDD, 8MB Video card, 48x CD-RW. Still got it around too but minus the RAM which is in Kelly's PC and the 20GB drive which is in mine. Current computer i bought in 2002 is a P4 2.4, 512 RAM, 64MB Geforce4, 80GB HDD + 20GB HDD, DVDROM Drive, DVD+RW, TFT Monitor will last me until i can afford to upgrade to an AMD Athlon64 And there are another 2 ( was 3 :( ) computers in the house as well LOL

i had a commodore 64, 386, 486, pentium 1, pentium 3, now got pentium 4 (3.06ghz). due for new video card as i got a NVIDIA FX5200 128mb card. it screws up sumtimes resetting my comp (very rarely). and with the new games commn out im gonna need an upgrade. i got no money though so for now itll have to do. when i finish my IT diploma ill get a beast of a comp. will get my mate to build one for me.
My current comp is Pentium 4 (3.06GHz), 512DDR ram, 80gb HDD, 52X 24X 52X-CDRW, 16X DVD, 128mb NVIDIA 8X (128mb), floppy drive, 6 USB, windows XP home editon, 17" LG flatron. no speakers (lol blew them up when i was very drunk :P) wat video card would any1 recommend as an upgrade? just as a guide. thinkn get a ATI Radeon, but its seems a lot of games these days r developed on NVIDIA so yeah i dunno. |

I remember using the Apple IIe's at school. Colour screen ones were what seperated the men from the boys - if you were lucky enough to get one the 10yr old girls thought you were the man. :dj:
My first own real PC was a Black Compaq Presario with about 12GB of RAM, got it around 1995 i think? Was a heap of junk but awesome at the time. I remember using Windows 95 and thinking 'damn im good'. Played SimCity on it too! Then we went to another Presario, a 5000 series with CD Burner (how good was i - only person in school with a CD burner!), and an orange case (you could pick from red, blue, orange green or black). It was great until like every other Compaq we'd owned or heard about, it just started going downhill at a Rpaid rate of knots. After that i went for a big mother which is still my current one. P4, DVD + CD Burner, all the usual. Still good for its age (about 2yrs).

I remeber as a 4 year old some huge contraptopn with a green and black screen that Mum and Dad had. I used to play memory and tic tac toe on it.
Thefirst comp I remeber clearly was some 386 with 40mHz, and you could push a button and it would go down to 20Mhz. that was cool..... It had a digital readout saying what speed it was running at. I used to play Woldenstein, spear of destiny, commander Keen 4 (and one but it was bog), Indy 500, Cosmo, Paganitzu and all the usual suspects. My favourite game of all time was called "Stunt Driver". It was made by broderbund software in about 92' it had NSX's, corvettes etc and you could do jumps and loops and rolls and all that. Awesome game. My second favourite was Prince of persia 2..... Top game that. |

Fisrt computer was an XT with CGA display, 5 1/4 (how cool were those new floppy disks!)... don't remember specifics after that.
Next in line was a 386 DX40 I believe... It stayed around for years, from VGA to SVGA, 70meg hdd, 4mb ram, eventually got a soundcard and a CD-ROM. I showed all those bastards what a boot disk could do to free up conventional memory and play doom! (although you didnt get a good frame rate on high detail with the default screen size). Then a cyrix686 120(someone had to buy one), amd k62 350, pentiums blah blah... But the 386 was the best. Its better than my current Athlon XP with all its gadgets... I could talk all day about playing stunts and lemmings.... ahhhhh memories.

My first ever was a Tandy 1000. After that came a 486, which quickly became a P100
I remember 'Stunts'. I loved creating my own tracks...they were HUGE!

I loved driving the indy car on the track that took up the entire field... somewhere around 235km/h the car would 'lock' on that speed if you held down the accelerator.... then you could drive on the grass without slowing down... much fun was to be had if you hit the outside fence at that speed (watch your car fly 100m into the sky twirling around)... Weird bug that one..
Anyway, head over to http://www.the-underdogs.org for abandonware fun (games that you can download because they arent sold anymore) http://www.ultimatestunts.nl/index.php?page=1&lang=en <-- This is a freeware game based on stunts in development that will work on unix/windows systems.
