You can go and take photo's off the end of most RAAF base runways but you probably won't be following them out yourself, it was certainly a first for me, and why the (un-named) secrecy and no pics....?

One for you then Tonz, have a look at the Whataroa Town Hall meeting in this article and see how many people are/resemble your relatives.

shoit bro, are we brothers............
I left 10 years before you. aged 27 and yes I can see myself in that group, actually have an uncle buried very close to that hall.

I was very fortunate that my dad owned his own business and made a point of every school holidays we would travel to a stop and get to know the area, instead of this quick hop out grab some photos on the Instamatic and off to the next place.

I was working/sailing out of Darwin from 13th May until the 25th June, most days when we were in port they where flying but to far away from where we anchor to get a decent photo...thats why i was chuffed when they pulled out ahead of us...

Yeah been inside you can't stand far enough away to get the B52 all in the one shot, they had a raised viewing platform in one corner that gave the best view, is that still there?

Yep platform is still there
They had the mobile staircase letting you walk up and take a look inside the cockpit. It was pretty amazing

Oh dear !
You have cracked my secret code. Now Dan Darstadley will know, and be there taking photos to pass on to our dreaded enemies.
But, we get used to seeing them on that (un-named) road to Medowie, and hearing them nearly every day, so the local novelty has now worn off.

I was at RAAF Richmond ('69 or '70) when a USAF F111 flew in for an air-show. We were not allowed within 50 metres of it, all very secret squirrel, but on the day of the air-show, anybody and everybody civilian could get up close and take photos of whatever they liked.

One of my favorite Camellia's in full flower.

I always love seeing these in flower, my Grandma had a garden full of Camellia's and so they are always a reminder of her for me.
