From the OP's Drive article;

Quote:
The Holden Caprice-based police car also scored a perfect 10 in a police pursuit simulation, but this time for the E85 version of the vehicle.

According to the report, steering, body lean and bounce were more noticeable in the petrol-engined version of the Caprice.
How can there be a difference in handling due to the type of fuel used?!?!

What a load of garbage.

It's funny, however I read the Caradvice story and my conclusion is that the Taurus PI is actually the car to beat and it's still in final development and will be stamped "Made in USA".

Why is it, the majority of posters insinuate Holden only export to US? Maybe some should actually see where Holden do export to. US is a small portion.

Middle east and South America really haven't recovered to any where near
pre 2008 levels, the fact that Holden remains deadly silent on their actual
export numbers say that there's nothing to really crow about....

And we know just what a god send to profit exports have been for Holden, just look at their bottom line.
I'd say the less they export, the more profit they seem to make...

Holden plan on $0.70 Aus for export sales. With the dollar over $1.05 and set to continue rising their profit will have taken a massive hit, if they ever sell.

So far they have only sold a few hundred PPV's.

So the 147 last month includes or excludes exports?

As above, when have you ever heard the numbers they export..if it was going gangbusters they would be shouting from the roof tops.

In the words of one of your mob, Pauline Hanson...'Please explain'. It is obvious you are a rusted on conservative, but I'd love to know how you rationalise this.

Investment in this country has never been higher. You espouse even greater international investment in Australia but probably also bemoan the fact that Vegemite isn't Australian owned anymore.

Might be the case. Who knows. Jst seems, when ever the word Holden crops up on this forum, somehas a negative say about them.

Now I'll ask. How many cars are Ford exporting? 100....200...300 per annum????

Holdens latest release of financials (for year ending dec 2010), indicated that they exported 8000 cars in 2010. Out of those, 2564 commodores were sold in new zealand, so adding in utes, i would say roughly 3000 of those 8000 went to NZ. From what i can determine, Falcon (ute) and territory sales in new zealand for 2010 were also near the 3000 mark.

So basically, Holden are exporting roughly 100 extra cars a week than what Ford is doing. Rough Figures would put ford at 60 cars a week, Holden at 160 per week and Toyota at 1400 a week. Or a better assumption would be that Toyota are losing $2.8 million a week on exports, Holden $640,000 (you gotta figure they lose more per car than the others), and Ford $120,000 per week.

100% Wrong.
Investment in this country is heading off shore faster than you can write leftist drivel. Further, hundreds of large companies are threatening to move off shore or close when the carbon tax is introduced, as well as all of these people below who vehemently disagree with the carbon tax such as;

Kerry Stokes, Stephen Lowy, the Minerals Council of Australia, Western Australian energy supplier New Synergy, the citizens of Illawarra, Hafda’s Butchery, Labor senator Doug Cameron’s working people, Rio Tinto, Alcoa, dairy farmers, barley growers, insurance companies, local councils, state governments, CFOs, food and grocery producers, miners, union members, Gerry Harvey, G&S Engineering, Sam Gadaleta, BHP, Queensland Labor members, the Noosa Chamber of Commerce, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Northern Territory parliament, Santos, the Australian Taxi Industry Association, Alumina Limited, an industrial group representing Amcor, Bluescope Steel, Boral, CSR, Sucrogen, Sugar Australia, Rheem, Vicpole and Dexion, Incitec, the Taxi Council of Queensland, the Australian Agricultural Company, the Australian Coal Association, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and the Federation of Automotive Product Manufacturers and Penrith’s Sun Masamune sake brewery and as of yesterday, Ford Australia.

Further, the threat of taxation by the socialists has seen the birth of the two speed economy where mining is booming, but manufacturing and retail are technically about to enter recession. The building sector is dead, housing prices are falling and the only investment we're seeing is the chinese buying agricultural land.
My advice, don't follow the party line and actually do some research on the subject. If you remain objective then you'll find the outlook is about as scary as Julia Gillard coming at you in a neglige carrying a box of rubbers.

The thing I find most interesting in the matter is, how did the US get the formula so wrong, after (to my knowledge) inventing it in the first place? Reading the police captain Andrew's comments was revealing. Why does it take an Australian designed car to show them how to produce a decent large RWD sedan? Anyone remember the article "Fords that could save Ford now"?

If the northern US needs large FWD/AWD because of snow, surely the southern US/Mexico is a large enough market to warrant 40 years of continued development in RWD sedans?

I seriously believe FordNA is waiting to see how the Ranger will go. If its a world wide success then I could see FoA doing GRWD.

Here's a quality article without the Holden biased BS of the other one.

Why are Holden continually dodging questions about how many orders they have for the PPV, are they too embarrassed to admit they have only sold a few hundred?

ford lovers, dont stick up for the taurus cop car, it isnt even really a ford, it uses the volvo s80 chasis from 1999 (designed 1995) lol. its funny how people stick up for a name brand that just wants your money. what should be commended is australian produced cars doing well overseas. Ford australia could be doing that too, but they are pathetic at selling cars.

My dad has a WK Caprice, and that thing wasn't that great in my opinion. Always had a clunky diff, the rear suspension is completely shot (though he did use it for towing), I just don't know what all the fuss is about. The SHO will absolutely kill the Caprice in the winter too.

My thoughts exactly, self promoting Holden would be crowing from the roof tops if PPV was selling....

Those are Australian registrations, Holden is exporting around 500/mth Buick Park Avenues (?) kits to China.
I believe they send around 6,000/yr Omegas over to Sth America and 6,000/yr Luminas to Middle East.
back in 2009, Holden said they lost 85% of their export market and really struggled to sell the last of the G8s.

I cannot understand why they don't just send the Park Avenue to Buick North America,
surely that makes a lot more sense than trying to sell decontented squad cars...

D3 Was developed from the Volvo P2 Version used in the XC90, I love it when people
are completely clueless to the origins of vehicles and how it was developed into a
completely new line of vehicles with no connection to Volvo at all.

What is funny is how people come onto a Ford Forum and try to defend Holden exports that aren't
selling well over seas and chide Ford for developing a great local Police car for their own market.
Talk about hypocritical, the Falcon is a regional program that costs Ford a fraction of what
the on again off again Zeta project has cost Holden and GMNA.

I know someone who deals with police fleet sales in the USA,
I can tell you Ford is more concerned with Charger than Caprice....

I wonder if LHD Commodore exports are really worth all the bother,
looks like Holden thinks it's better off focusing on increasing Cruze
local content and production by bringing the Hatchback on stream,
seems people really like it so why not give people what they want.

I am not talking about either of those two articles, I'm not biased that way
I get my info straight from the US, so let's talk facts then shall we:
Last month in the USA,
- over 6,000 Crown Victorias were sold... all to fleet and mostly police vehicles
- over 6,000 Taurus were sold... 70% were to private buyers, the rest to fleet sales.
- over 10,000 Dodge Chargers were sold, approximately 30-40% went to Police vehicles

- how many Caprice PPV were delivered...500?

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't be tooting Holden's horn for trying to
compete in such a hostile market place with a decontented luxury car,
I would much rather Holden exported a "Buick Park Avenue" than a PPV.
